One has to wonder if there would be so much patience, understanding, and willingness to give out the MAX if Yao was from the Bronx and was trying to get 'streetball' out of his game. I mean what if he had '22 years' of street ball and total selfishness to get out of his system?

Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me, which seem to be eagerly reserved for Yao. He is never responsible for his pathetic play: Rudy T., Francis/Mobely, JVG, poor PG play, Chinese government, etc. are always more responsible. Now you guys want to give the MAX to him. What makes him different from Eddy Curry? Underachieving, poor rebounding, out of shape, slow on defense, and a real good interior scorer. Oh I forgot, since Yao is 7'6, everything is forgiven:rolleyes:

What would all the Yao-haters say if Yao had a season-ending injury?

:D Great post by Doc Rocket! That said, I think this is probably one of the funnier threads I've read through for a while. I dunno, maybe my humor is a little twistest, but...

I can just imagine Doc Rocket saying this, sarcastically like a teenage girl. "Like, OMG!"

Couldn't you have found a different Forum picture than that one from Ebaumsworld? :D

Who would have thought that a positive post on Yao would have ended up with our image posting privileges getting revoked. I think the last time that happened it was because of p*rn accidentally being posted in the Hangout Forum :D

Anyways, I definitely agree with Doc Rocket. He is definitely struggling with his cultural identity each and every time he steps out on the basketball court. I think its much harder, IMO, to be a player that is used to being a cog in a working clock than it is to be the main face of that clock. It will take him at least a couple more years to be the player that we all want him to be. It will just take some patience by our organization, as well as the fans.

Tell me why you guys handed Gasol the max? His numbers was
just so-so and at the same level with an Underachieving Yao.

Great Post Doc, my sentiments exactly. Give the Man time. and no 3 years is not enough time in the NBA (obviously) after all those years of 'Culture' in the Chinese League. Will he ever consistently prosper in the NBA? Only Time will tell. I'm a patient man, I'll wait, because I am a ROF (Rockets only Fan)

Yeah, I am sure you would prefer throwing some money at Brian Cardinal.

Are you really that dense? Do you not remeber that Paul Gasol recieved a near max contract extension after avg 17 and 7 last year? Do you know what Yao avg last season? Do you know what position Yao plays?
    Answers:
He plays center and in case you havent noticed, it is kind of hard to get someone to play center that avgs 18-9 nowadays... which is aproximately what he avged last season.

Oh and whats the difference between yao and eddy curry? 18-9 vs 15-6. Oh you didnt noticed thier stats difference? What was it too insignificant a point for you?

If Eddy Curry avg 18-9 last season or this season, while playing center... with zero baggage dont you think most in the league would
    give him a max extension?

And lastly, for those who believe yao is underacheiving... sure Yao could be better, as could everyone. Sure he has weaknesses, as he always will, but to constantly complain about his "underachievement" seems a little exaggerated to me. I mean the guys is still avg 18 - 8. And If in the unlikely scenario Yao doesnt get significantly better, guess what, he still a damn good player and an extremely valueble one given the position he plays. Furthermore just to note, Yao would has already surpassed the standards many believed he was capable of when the rockets drafted him.

LOL! I was trying to tell some friends yesterday how much Cardinal is getting paid and they wouldn't believe me! That has to be one of the most stupidest deals EVER!!!

And Memphis fans criticizing Rockets fans for giving Yao the max is just plain funny. Gasol does not put up monster numbers but its okay to give that whinny b**** max money? Yao will end up being ten times the player that cry baby is.

Yao is not the one making excuses and you are being extremely harsh, but then again you are not a Rockets fan. So I do not really know why we should even care what you think about him.

MemphisX just found his manhood now. His Grizzlies finally started winning some games. Where was he when Brown was still the coach?

Not to get off topic, but does anyone really believe MEMPHIS will ever do anything in the playoffs? I dont think so. They are good enough to make the playoffs, but are nothing more then first round fodder.

So is Gasol under-achieving by your standards too? He averages 1.5 more points per game, with 4 more minutes per game.

GREAT, GREAT post Doc. My thoughts to a tee!

Yao will get it eventually. Whether it be a coaching, system or philosophy change within the team he will get it. He is equal to a super-talented, yet raw, highschool player that came into the league. Just like KG and J. O'Neal, it will be a 4-5 years before it ALL comes together. He just has TOO much raw talent for his size for it not to. Remember, there is a reason why a superstar talent DEMANDED to be traded here to play with Yao.

Nice try, MemphisX. Old West almost tricked us not drafting Yao by bashing Yao after the Chicago show.

What's the difference bwtween Curry and Yao?
Curry plays in the East with 15/6
Yao plays in the west with 18/8

Enough said. Dont insult our big boy. Eric Damp could get close 10 mil, why is Yao not a max player. Someone's willing to pay him max if not us. That includes Griz too.
