Every time I run it, it finds this little guy: eXact.Downloader Type: Trojan Downloader Threat Level: High Author: eXact Advertising LLC. Description: eXact Downloader is a Trojan used by eXact Bargain Buddy and Cash Back to download and install additional components. It says it removes it, but when I run it again five minutes later it's still there.
Without having to start another thread Does anyone know of a good FREE anti virus program? Im tired of using Norton as it doesnt seem to catch stuff. Anyone?
codes Trend micro has a free scanner, not sure if it will clean the virus tho. You might use it, find out what you are infected with and go to symantec's website and see if they have a removal tool specifically for what ails ya?!?!?
actually i dont have a virus, but want a free program that will monitor (emails) like Norton Norton seems to do a bad job at catching stuff
You could try AVG Anti-virus: http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php I've never used it, but it's probably about as good as your going to get for free. However, I don't believe I'd trust as much as I trust Norton. But it may do a great job. Who knows?
From the Spybot site: "DSO-Exploit is a security gap in Internet Explorer, Outlook and Outlook Express. Microsoft did already close this gap with security updates, so with current Windows updates and patches installed, it will no longer be a threat to your system. Spybot-S&D will still detect the DSO-Exploit, but instead of fixing it for good, it will unfortunately again set an invalid value. Therefore it will again be found with every scan. This little bug in Spybot-S&D has already been repaired and the respective fix will soon be available as a program update." If you have all the current updates and patches, you can safely tell Spybot to ignore DSO Exploit. Unless you do this you it will come up every time until they fix the bug. All you have to do is check the DSO Exploit box under Ignore Products, under Settings. While you're there, you might want to uncheck a few products that Spybot is set to ignore. I don't know what these products are, probably nothing too harmful, but it just annoyed me that they were allowed to run by default. Maybe that's how they are able to offer it as freeware.
I downloaded and installed Microsoft Anti-Spyware tonight. After running it, I had 2 supposed spyware instances, one was my logitech webcam the other was a scheduler for my anti-virus program!! LOL I told it to ignore the anti-virus updater but let it 'fix' the logitech 'spyware' and it ended up uninstalling my system tray icon. So basically, it found nothing. Neither were malicious or a serious threat. When I installed it I made sure not to turn on any automatic protection, updates or any of that microsoft validation stuff.... Currently my system seems fine, no crashes and I don't intend on using MAS very much as I surf a lot smarter these days and rarely visit sites that direct me towards spyware/malware/adware... plus I use firefox. So, while MAS may fix your spyware problems, it's always best to just avoid spyware and you won't have problems to fix.
i installed not sure what good it is doing one small problem.... do anyone see a drop in internet speed after installing it.,.,.. or wonder if it turned the windows firewall back on.... think I had that off before... thoughts anyone
I keep my Windows firewall off too and use Zone Alarm. I didn't notice any drop in my internet speed though. It did say it found over 200 items which is crazy because I run Adaware and Spybot daily and usually only find one or two of the usual suspects. One difference: I can now access clutchfans chat again. There wasn't anything I could do to get it working for almost 8 months until I ran that program.
That E2Give spyware is a b**** to get removed. It keeps coming back no matter how many times I remove it and no matter where I go on the Internet. I've removed every instance of it I can find and it still tries to install at bootup or out of no where when I am surfing. Working on it again right now.
Tons of programs try to load themselves at startup unless you uncheck them. I know what you mean though. It is annoying. If you have Spybot you can go in and actually delete unnecessary stuff from your startup menu by going to Tools/Startup (in Spybot).
