It all comes down to Yao, no one can teach Yao but himself right now. It also has to do with penetration, teams have been able to penetrate the perimeter and go straight in at Yao, they know they will get the call.

But JVG NEEDS to send in video to the NBA, the officiating on Yao has been unbelievably terrible. If officials get to see on tape of the calls called on Yao (or not called), they will immediately take note and watch for those things in the game.

Well, if the league doesn't want Yao in it, then there is nothing that anybody can do about it, including Yao and Van Gundy and President Bush besides to boycott the league.

But Van Gundy could use that point for psychological purposes. When he is asked about Yao he should start apologizing to the fans and to the Asian community about the fact that he knows they come to see Yao play but he can't change the foul calls on Yao and he isn't going to ask Yao to change the way he plays because Yao plays the right way.

Instead of going on and on about Yao needs to do this, he needs to do that, he needs to learn when to jump, how to hold his mouth, how to tie his shoes, when to dunk, when to take the contact, when to dish the contact, when to shoot, when to pass, when to roll over and play dead, when to push, when not to push, when to double, when not to double, and on and on and on and on............Yao just needs to go out there and forget to think about all that crap and just play, like he did when he was a rookie under Rudy and didn't know his head from a hole in the ground and he was making all those terrific passes and shots because he was letting his instincts take over. Yao needs Van Gundy to do for him what Van Gundy did for TMac, take off all the shackles and let him go at it. Great players know how to play, they don't need to be taught again. Great players are like self learning computers, they learn by their experiences and going through different situations in games and working with their teammates.

Yao just needs to go out there with a clear head and play. He needs to erase his hard drive of all these stupid downloads that have viruses and are clogging up his system causing him to have to think about every little step and slowing him down. Turn him loose, encourage him, and let him get his 6 and force the league to adjust.

Van Gundy gets paid millions of dollars to figure out this stuff. Man, when something ain't working, you do something different. We've been playing this adjustment game too long and it ain't working.

You think the refs make bad calls by accident? You think the refs will change due to your complaining?

The only anwser: foul real hard. Knock someone down if he runs into Yao.

I'm tired of blaming referees. Blaming external factors are never good for the development of a player.

Yao is definitely getting killed by bad calls by the refs. In particular is the play when a player attacks the rim but is completely out of control. Yao jumps straight up, the opposing player (see Jason Williams tonight, Ginobli last game) initiates contact and is out of control and gets the call. So Yao's only choice is to basically avoid making a play which is utterly ridiculous when he's going straight up. Yao is not playing well, but the horrendous officiating is also making things much harder.

On a different note, that facial by Swift on Yao changed the game for bad.

That was an unfortunate sight if you are a Rockets fan. I was embarrased for Yao.

I wish Yao can deliver hard fouls. But I also think he has no balls to do that. I hate to say that he is a wuss.

Yao has to adjust,so does his teamats and Jvg.
Yao should avoid unnecessary fouls if he footwor can's catch up with opponent.
    Teamates should protect opponent's dribbling.
JVG should know keep Yao on the court is the biggest threat to their opponents.

At the beginning of the season, Yao had many games with foul troubles. He then did improved in past 10 games. He now had the same issue.

He needs to adjust the way how the game is called

    Exactly.

A guy jumps into me and I'm more than a foot taller and one hundred twenty pounds heavier? F*** it; he's hitting the floor.

If I'm gonna foul out anyway, gonna make sure some dudes on the other team are missing some teeth.

Here's the thing I have never understood.... when Yao came to play for us he never did DUNK people said it was just culture differences and that he didnt have the heart yadda, yadda... Yao proved he is smart and is wants to be a great player and adjusted to make him look like a power player instead to doing LAME layups... I think he really is trying to do a goodjob, but something is missing

    is it

    A. Coaching problems

    B. Yaos' problem

I dont know why he doesnt foul hard or make GOOD, QUICK jugements on when to foul, but before he can get better the problem should be identified and then fixed... I'm not for getting rid of JVG or his staff, but it would be nice if that was the problem the staff could spend extra time with him before and after practice... If it really is Yaos problem and he cant get to the point of wanting to play as if he has a pair of nuts, we are going to have more problems that we think over the long haul..

    1. Stay with opponent center, no help defence unless the teammates can keep up with his man, so that even there is a call they could take it to protect Yao. Let the roleplayer do their jobs, including taking the foul for him and TMac.

    2. As others suggested, if you can't avoid foul, foul it hard! I don't want Yao destroy anyone's remaining career, but give them some pains at least.

    3. If there is an arguable call on offence end, be carefull! The zebras are raising their alert lever trying to make the balance. So, don't be the victim of the balance whistle.

    4. Work more on offence and rebounds! Though the number doesn't tell all, it means something. Consecutive 20+pts/10+rebs games will gain your the respect from everyone. How many time have you seen the franchise player of a team was fouled out? Very few if any.

Since it is said Yao is a member on this board, I wish my suggestion make a little sense to him.

There's no help for Yao at all. Where's Juwan Howard? When our PF gets beat, Yao has to help out ahd pick up useless foul. We seriously need some defense from PF in terms of containing the opponent's PF. I missed Cato in that regard.

    jopatmc is right

at some point - Yao is going to foul out of enough national TV games that it will get the league's attention. The NBA is marketing him big time and if I were ESPN and I paid millions of dollars to show the Shaq v. Yao XIXIXIII then I would damn well want Yao and Shaq on the court !!!

I could have sworn that people were complaining about the refs when it came to Yao the last two seasons as well.

    Get the Two Technicals

Some people will probably lynch me for saying this but I think Yao needs to get in the faces of the refs more during games and risk getting the two technicals. If he does, and gets ejected, PERFECT!!!! Why? b/c it's time to be appealing to a higher authority -- that authority known as David Stern. David will surely take notice if Yao disappears to the locker room on major games on national TV.

How bad would the publicity be???

Yao needs to take a page from the Vlade Divac school of jabberwocky and stop being such a polite quiet goodie-too-shoes.

    :p

Yao is playing in an ideal basketball world. I cannot disagree with his "I will never intentionally hurt someone attitude". However, since we are living in reality, he needs to realize this and use it as a way to protect himself on the court.
