I'll say this - Rod Strickland was a GREAT 'pure' point guard and one of the best finishers I ever saw. He and Derek Harper NEVER missed layups. Give him a shot to fill in if needed? Yeah, why not?
say my name b***h.....say it!!...say it!! naw..not me...Im a little undersized and overweight to play the point(only 6'2". 240) and if you guys are b****ing about players being old....heh...lets just say Im up there with Strickland.... see....there ^^^ is why Doc Rocket has cred when talking ball and alot of you dont...he knows whats up...

WAS is the operative word. Guy is 38 years old, hasn't played since last season, I would be surprised if he shows anything in his tryout. If T-Mac and Sura are out for any time with their injuries we will need help but I don't think Rod is going to pass the tryout.
I wouldn't mind renting Rod Strickland for a ten day or two if it allows Sura enough rest to heal sufficiently to make it through the season.
Didn't the Rockets think about bringing him in a few years ago? I wonder if the drug stuff is why they decided not to. Am I just imagining things? Oh, dude...check this out from 1998! Future Rockets? The disappointing Washington Wizards will have several pressing issues to deal with over the offseason. Perhaps the most important will be trying to keep free-agent Rod Strickland. But Strickland is 31, and he'll want to test the waters since this may be his last chance to land a big contract. The Rockets could be the team trying hardest to convince Strickland to leave Washington. The Rockets have also targeted Golden State's Jimmy Jackson as their first choice to replace Clyde Drexler. When Golden State traded for Jackson in February, they weren't sure if they wanted to re-sign him this summer when he becomes a free agent. But Jackson's scoring and leadership have convinced the Warriors to try to keep him. It won't be easy. SI Taylor Insider
I proposed bringing him in before because he is a point guard in the truer sense of the word. He always looks to get his teammates going and can score himself. He is old(38), but he could provide some rest for Sura and he has played with T-Mac and Juwon, so he'll have that edge. I was for it before and have no qualms with it now. I'd rather have a vet that knows the in's and out's of the game than an undersized rookie that likely will not ever be the fulltime PG on this team.
Seven years is, uh, nothing in today's NBA. I'm sure he's updated his files since then. I just hope that we can grab Toni Kukoc. I kid, I kid.
Brandin Knight, eh? Well, being from Pittsburgh I have had many opportunities to see this guy play. He's one hell of a competitor, doesn't like losing and is willing to play through injury to help assure his team comes out on top. However, in all fairness I don't see him being a good fit as a Rocket and I also question whether he even has NBA game. He's an above average at best playmaker with decent defensive abilities that plays with heart & passion---that's about all his NBA resume can say in a positive sense. He can't shoot. He was a good shooter in his breakout junior year of college but after that, his senior year %'s were pretty low. On top of that, he is an atrocious free throw shooter---we're taking 50% or LOWER. He also probably isn't the 6'0" he's listed at. Bottom line, he was a great college player that I am still a fan of but I don't see him fitting in as a Rocket.
Rod Strickland wouldn't be a bad insurance policy to bring off the bench to run the point. He is a veteran who is a pass first PG.
I Read this in the Houston Chronicle that there briniging in Rod strickland for a work out which i dont thik is that bad of a move i mean we need some insurence just incase Bob Sura Goes down and also if Sura need alittle rest to sit and the way Andre Barett turned the ball over against the nuggets we seriosly need someone.I also Read that thir looking at some players from the CBA and NBDL like Brandin knight.
Hilarious, why don't we just go to the YMCA and pick someone up there.....what a joke!!! I'd rather bring Mark Jackson back if he is in shape...at least he already knows the system.
Strickland can still play. He was putting up good numbers in Orlando/Toronto before his knees gave out on him because they were overusing him... He had 16 assists in a game last year. That said, I still think he's a headcase.
Not me. Jackson can't shoot the jumper if his life depended on it. He would cause an automatic double team with no kick out option at all. Strickland is a much better fit. Jackson needs to stay in the booth.
