I find the addition of Barry and Wesley and JVG's calm under pressure deserving of some props. We're actually above .500 and JVG somehow managed to coach Juwan Howard on how to play the game of Basketball and hit open jumpers. Maybe he told Juwan not to short arm his shots. Though Barry hasn't shot as well as he does in the past (which happens to all shooters when they come to Houston, must be the humidity, all the fat girls, or the potholes in the road). He does show desire and effort. He dives for loose balls and little things. Sura plays hard too, even though he can't shoot most of the time. He does have that 'hot streak' characteristic that Rocket's past guards possess. Lue, when he was on the court, looked like he was just playing for a paycheck. Boki, at least they traded him after his bobblehead night. Hope he finds his jumper in New Orleans. Cause I didn't see it in Houston. Jimmy Jackson. I feel for him, but between the Curse of Juwan and the Curse of Jimmy Jackson. Something had to give. I also felt his jump shot was just off this year. JVG at least acknowledges the crowd when he gets booed. He's turned this team from a team who can't score 80pts to a team that scores about 100pts. The West is not that good this year, and I think we might have a chance at making it to the second round this year!
Where does this Sura can't shoot crap come from. The guy is hitting almost 48% of his shots this year. Just because he's not a terror from the 3 point line doesn't mean he can't shoot. In fact if you take out his 3 point shots (which is at 31% now) he's hitting 55.6% of his 2 point shots which is downright gaudy for a guard in this league. So it would be nice if you would check your facts before you spew out some nonsense on the internet.
"The West is not that good this year" I would beg to differ, look at the teams ahead of us right now Suns SA Seattle Sac Dallas Lakers then there is T-wolves (you expect them to turn it around soon) Memphis Utah (Yeah they are playing bad but with AK47 ..) Any of those teams ahead of us, it would be difficult to beat in a playoff series. I don't expect the Rockets to go higher than the 6th seed, so you going to end up playing SA, Suns, or Sea in my opinion. Great to see your enthusiasm for the Rockets, but don't fool yourself on false ideas. Late!
If you take away his made shots on drives to the basket his F/G% drops drastically. Sura is a terriffic player but not a that good of a shooter. Although he can get hot like he has done a couple of times this year. I personally love the way Sura plays the game. I think if he had a consistant outside jump shot then he might be an all star player.
It seems like some of the things the BBS has suggested has actually happened the Rockets ARE NOT running the same offense from the beginning of the season It seems maybe Les told JVG OPEN UP THE OFFENSE and fill those seats or I will kick your *SS!!! Rocket River
The Barry for Lue deal was great. It is a no-brainer. The Wesley for JJ/Nachbar deal? I was mad about it at first. Now seeing what Wesley is bringing the team I think we definetly made the right move. I loved JJ on the Rockets, but from what I can see on the court, Wesley brings better chemistry to the team. "Quicker" defender (especially laterally). Better in transition. And makes quicker decisions with the basketball when it is thrown his way which speeds up our offense.
Uhhh...yes they are, its just now he actually has some players who are following his requests to push the ball up the court to see if we can get some easy baskets and they are smart enough to pull it up if the opportunity is not there.
Team chemistry is better, but I would not give JVG much credit... Before the Dallas game where TMac scored 48 pts and Dirk scored 53 or so-remember how frustrated JVG was? He had no answers and blamed poor effort, etc. At that point we saw a new TMac emerge- I strongly believe that JVG either asked, requested or begged TMac to open it up and play his game. JVG previously complained that it was a cop out by players that they were second guessed or played tentatively -looking to the bench for his approval and afraid of scolding by JVG.. The defense is not the same now. Our offense has improved, but I would not give him much credit..... The players did it despite his complaints to the media....
Even if we are playing better, we still could have got more than David Wesley and his almost $5 million price tag for 2005-06, in return for JJ (who will only make $2.7 million next year) and Boki (whose contract expires this summer). Spin it any way you want, it was still not an even deal, and probably a knee-jerk reaction by JVG.
It seems like some of you guys will take this hate to your graves. It is sad and unfortunate. Anyway what do I care, I can scientifically prove to you that cancer and hate are cousins but I don't have the time for that now. Regression and hate are room mates as well. So keep hating and deluding yourselves.
The Rockets can beat all of them. The only teams I'm really worried about are the Spurs and the Suns.
Right on Fegwu, Im pretty happy that the Rockets are above .500. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Strike me now and I will come back stronger. Boards dont fight back.
