He will be on soon. I'll try to report. I hope someone scolds him for Strickland, and ask why Yao is doing so poor this year in general.
*Jeff Van Gundy expresses his delight Charlie Cassidy, the Texans General Manager is a Knicks Fan.* Lance: How do you feel about the play recently? JVG: We didn’t play very well in LA the first half, Denver we had a great start, great 4th qtr . Dallas we struggled to guard them. Last night we struggled and were able to bounce back. Lance: You know Bob looks really hurt, its pretty studly the effort level hes giving with that injury on both sides. JVG: Totally, He’s playing out of position. He had back surgery, no training camp, bad knee, and never once complaining. Hes got no premadonna in him at all, Its so refreshing. I couldn’t be happier for him to have the night he did last night. John: Whats T-Mac look like for the Spurs? JVG: We will have to see, he hasn’t been in yet. We’ve already missed him at a few home games and it put us in a hole during the beginning of the year. If he’s not there we just have to play better and keep the margin of error down. Lance: Amist the positives of the offense, it concerns me how many open looks the opposing team is still getting. JVG: It depends if they are playing out of position. For PHX our plan was to take away Amares dunks. We had trouble getting back out of the paint. Lance: There is no way Dirk should ever have an open look at the 3. Are you more comfortable with Juwons shots as of late? JVG: Well when your playing with Yao, we sag off the entry pass and go to Juwon, since physical Centers are pushing Yao up the pain when we try to go into Yao. We really need that shot to fall so T-Mac and Yao can get off. John: It seems to us it’s starting to come together. JVG: Well it’s an on going process, it never just clicks. Like when we were 3-2 and then McGrady went out and we dug ourself a hole. We blew a lead against ATL. We got a buzzer beater against us in NY. Our easiest stretch was the first 30 games. The toughest is the last 52. We missed our chance to build us a cushion. John: If the Playoffs started today we’d be playing SA. There is still time to jocky around a bit, what do you think will happen. JVG: We just need to try and get better and increase our rate of improvement. *They are going to proceed to do a Bball trivia game with JVG against a caller, JVG usually owns the caller and then gives him his tickets because he feels sorry for embarassing them on air. Last time the caller had multiple choice, and when it was his turn, JVG asked to not give him the multiple choice and just let him answer the questions, he got every one right*
John: *Advertises Retro Nights* Coach you have your 70’s clothes still? JVG: I look bad in any clothing! *talks about 70’s fahion* *TRIVA CALLER GOR ZERO QUESTIONS RIGHT, JVG GOT 3 OF 5 AND USED THE MULTIPLE CHOICE* John: Ask about Rod Strickland JVG: We are down one point guard, Im worried Bob will go down and we will be left with just Andre. Carrol is looking at anyone who is available. Its not ideal to get another old player but we will just see who we can get to come in. Lance: How hard is it to gauge a player when your thinking about aquiring them? JVG: Maybe it takes the humbling experience of being traded. Winning also changes the perception. Every team needs a difference maker. Lance: John Barry has been a great difference maker. JVG: I agree Lance: Wesley seems like a better ball handler than JJ. JVG: With him and Barry splitting the minutes, we added some quickness, improved the rebounding, cut down on turnovers, but still need to improve. *They proceed to go on about teams around the league, JVG still thinks the Spurs are the team to beat, but PHO will be dominate in the playoffs, he also give props to SEA*
I guess this somewhat squashes the perception that JVG only wants "old guy veterans" on the team. Looks like whoever we get will just be the best fit regardless.

Van Gundy is very basketball smart. He's impressive. His personality comes off better on this call in show. But I still don't like those critical the sky is falling negative funks he gets in. Don't mind the straight forward comments but I still like the coach to keep player stuff less public if its really negative.
