"Write this down. If he can't go out and bang, if he can't get two or three feet underneath the basket, he is ineffective.

"My goal is to keep him out of the paint. That is not an easy task to do. That is easier said than done. But I am going to try to keep him out of the paint and see how good he is.

"I challenge him to take a jump hook. Take a couple jump shots. I bet you he can't do that.

It sounds like someone talking about Dampier to me ... but I can't imagine Yao saying that before tonights game

    I'll guess Mutombo :)

When Fortson said this about Shaq, he could have been saying this about Yao. This is absolutely ludicrous because Yao used to be a skilled basketball player. He wasn't just supposed to brute his way to layups and dunks like Shaq. Noone can play like Shaq. Even Amare can shoot jumpers and hook shots better than Yao now, and Amare was supposed to be a guy who could only dunk.

Tonight's game against the Mavericks might have Yao sitting on the bench early on due to Dampier being too physically strong for Yao to back down. If Yao had the skills he used to have, this wouldn't even be an issue.

Yao is emulating Shaq who cannot be emulated. Shaq is a one of a kind player. Only Wilt Chamberlain was similar.

Yao is taking the wrong path in his career, and it's going to show tonight when he looks ineffective in front of national TV when Dampier (the Yao stopper) defends him.

No way will Dampier stop Yao tonight. Yao has been playing much better and since he doesn't have the elbow sleve or the flu he will show you that he still has the skills to do some damage on the Mavs.:D

Fortson said it about Shaq before the last Sonics Heat game.

It was Fortson's comments about Shaq. I just posted it because I think it could easily have been comments describing Yao which is horrible since it would mean Yao is trying to emulate a physical monster who he can never match ever due to genetics.

When Dampier shuts down Yao tonight because Yao can only score via dunks and layups, everyone can read the 1st post in this thread to see why Yao is doing himself a great disservice by taking the route he has taken in his career.

I'd give this zero stars if I could. I need to learn to keep out of 1 star threads, but it's like a train wreck - something in you just wants to look.

Me too, catchy headline though. It was like the Lays Potato Chip bags that say 0 grams trans fat but then you find out that the chips have more fat than a Big Mac.

Charvo will not relent until Yao signs with the Lakers. That is all he cares about.

It would be cool if a thread got enough "1 star" votes, it would automatically be locked. Maybe even a short term suspension on the thread starter from starting any more. :p

Yeah, Yao's also emulating Shaq's free throw form

No, Yao doesn't only shoot layups and dunks. If he did, I'd be worried, 'cause he seems to miss more than his fair share of layups.

Wow....great idea. I do not know if it program-able though. There are down sides to it though.

Damn it Charvo, must you disguise your JVG bashing in such creative ways? :D I'll say it outright, JVG sucks as an offensive coach, all players under JVG will regress
