What We Know: Contrary to rumors, Toyota's Supra replacement will in no way, shape or form, bear any resemblance to the Giugiaro-designed Volta concept which appeared in Geneva last March. Toyota does, however, plan on delivering a high-performance sports car along the lines of the departed Supra some time between the end of 2006 and 2007. This two-door, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sport coupe might be built on an all-new platform, although it's expected that Lexus will not build its own variation. The car will probably be priced under $30,000 and some sort of prototype could very likely debut at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show.
Well, this is not surprising. Honda has the S2000 roadster Nissan has the 350Z and really the Infiniti G35 coupe Mazda has the RX-8 Toyota needed something more than the girly Celica even though they have the MR2 Spyder or has that gone away? (I am asking as I have no idea). Honda really needs another sports car other than the S2000 since it is a limited market - maybe the old Acura NSX but not as exotic or as pricey.
btw, manny; you just bought a 350z right? I'm gonna be in the market for one soon. I'm looking for a pre-owned 10-20k miles. Any suggestions on model? I like the touring...
btw the pricing for the new "supra" is not 30k it's around 100k, hence the name, "supercar" . It supposedly will be powered by a v-10 500-hp, 370-lb-ft engine. Top speed 190...and weighs less than 3000 lbs ...they only plan to make 12,000 of them
Okay that makes me move on a lot faster and go after my new car...i am actually looking at the 350z as well sometime around march...i have always loved the z cars and wanted one..i had a 280zx turbo and loved it never got a 300 and now that i can afford it i am thinking about getting the 350z ...so manny hook us up with the advice =P
Is there any concrete mechanical difference between the Z & the G35c??? Aesthetically, I think the G35c is a much classier, beautiful car, but does it lag behind the Z performance wise?
Touring edition is the way to go. Has everything except the droptop which of course is on the Roadster. The features include: Leather seats Heated leather seats 6 Disc CD Changer/Tape Player/AM-FM Stereo Cruise Control Bose Sound System And much more. I would also recommend going with the 6 speed manual transmission over the auto - more fun to drive it that way. Stack, Definitely look into getting a 350Z Touring Edition. I have had mine (it is a 2003) since October and it is the best car I have ever driven (I have had owned in the past a Prelude, Camry, and Maxima). I think you will not regret buying one. Just be aware that it really is a true 2 seater with no back seat at all. Rocket G, The Infiniti G35 coupe is pretty much the same car (with a different chassis obviously but everything else is similar like the engine, etc.) as the Z but has 280 hp compared to 287 hp for the Z. Plus it also has the prestige of being an "Infiniti" which the Z does not have. But you can't go wrong with either one, though.
Thanks for the heads up. I have always wanted a Z and they have always been something i will eventually get and now it's kind of all coming in place so i am thinking about getting it. I have had a 78 280zx turbo, 94 Accord (still have), 2001 4 runner, so now it's time i do something for myself before maybe i get married have kids and have some real expenses that i can't get this car and have to wait forever and might not get a chance you know. Yeah i was looking at the Touring edition myself. I looked into the Infinit but the price is not worth it for the same car in my opinion you know? They are more luxurious and all but they will never have the history or the followers that the Z has. What color do you have? I like that bright blue but i think i might end up with another black car or might change up to Silver.
Woooo nelly. This is where you domestics start dogging the car, and saying rice this and rice that, blah blah blah. Brian Kagy has said it, and I fear him like the plague. Go horns! that's okay, each it's own. I can't afford one, so somebody hook a brother up.
Stack, I have a silver one and I get about one or two complements a week from people. But black would be an awesome color to have - you would just have to keep it clean more often as black cars seem harder to keep clean. I also forgot to mention to you, Weezer, and Rocket G, that the Touring Edition has the ATTS which is the Active Torque Transfer System. So you are probably thinking to yourself, "Okay that is great but what does that system do?" What it does is automatically "correct" the car if you go around a curve too fast and begin to lose control. It will "straighten" the car and slow it down at the same time. I "discovered" that by accident about the 4th day I had it. I said to myself, "Note to self - don't make a habit of using the ATTS!"
I thought they were making this car with the sole purpose of taking on the 350Z in price, performance, etc. Infiniti G35/ 350z are just about the nicest looking cars on the road.
Hmm, looking on Edmunds, they actually call the ATTS, Vehicle Dynamic Control or VCD but I am pretty sure the manual refers to it as ATTS. I'll have to take a look at that. Anyway, here are some pics of a 350Z that is very similar to mine (same color) but this is not a Touring Edition, I believe this a Performance Edition (no leather seats or premium sound system).
does the performance edition have the rear spoiler or can that just be added on? ATTS is on all models?
Yea, I forgot to mention that my car has a spoiler but it is so different from what I had on my Camry, Maxima, and Prelude that I forget that it is there. I don't know the answers to your questions other than to copy and paste this info from Edmunds: "Five trim levels are offered: base, Enthusiast, Performance, Touring and Track. Base models come with items like an automatic climate control system with air conditioning; 17-inch wheels; antilock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD); power windows, locks and mirrors; a CD player; and remote keyless entry. Going with an Enthusiast model adds high-intensity discharge headlights, cruise control, traction control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a limited-slip rear differential. Performance models get these items plus Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), a tire-pressure monitor and 18-inch wheels. For even more performance, the Track model has front and rear spoilers, 18-inch lightweight wheels and upgraded brakes. Those interested in comfort should take a look at the Touring model, as this has an upgraded audio system with a six-CD changer, power and heated seats, and leather trim."
Is saying "you domestics" about the same as calling people "ricers" Personally, I feel "rice" is what one does to a car. Adding the fart can, UFO lights, and slapping an ironing board on the back of a car, Rice. Having the "ricer" attitude...gunning the engines measured in c.c's, challenging me at every stoplight, doing and "awesome" front wheel peel, and, after losing soundly, doing the ricer flyby...that's a ricer. Personally, I think a lot of import cars being built are very nice. The Impreza WRX, the Supra, the RX-8. Nice performance imports. A good thing is that I read that the rice scene is dying out. It turns out that it is too expensive to mod imports to achieve the performance of "domestic" performance cars. Of course, there will now always be ricers out there. Those that have invested into their imports will not want to lose out on their investments, but there is not a lot of growth in the Fast and Furious movement. Personally, I will be sticking to my Mustang, seeing as I'm about to drop in a 351 bored out .0060 and slap on a set of AFR 185's. People that know what I'm talking about will appreciate my excitement.
