There is not a weak performance to be found in this film, a semi-bigraphical account of Cameron Crowe's early life. Philip Seymour Hoffman, by all accounts a real jerk, turns in another fantastic performance as a rock and roll journalist who acts as a guide for the film's protagonist. I've been a fan of Noah Taylor since "Flirting" and certainly since "Shine". He is entertaining as the band's small-time manager. Kate Hudson is fantastic as the incomparable Penny Lane, a kind of neo-groupie. All in all, a terrific film. The year's best so far. I usually like to write more in depth in my reviews, but I'm in a hurry. Go see this film. ------------------ Sometimes I think I'd be better off dead. No, wait, not me...you.
I agree. The best film I have seen this year, however this has been a pretty weak year for movies. ------------------
That's true, bobrek. However, the studios generally wait till about this time of the year to release films they feel might have a shot at the Oscar. ------------------ Sometimes I think I'd be better off dead. No, wait, not me...you.
