Just a rumor that it's being discussed (for future draft picks from Chicago), but it's in Sam Smith's Chicago Tribune column

It seems as if the Magic really wants to get rid of Miller. He keeps on coming up on rumors. Why is that? I mean, he won ROY, and he is a good player. I guess they figure he won't get much PT when Hill comes back, so they want to move him when his stock is high.

Mike Miller will not be traded this offseason. He is TMac's best friend on the team - and you never want to upset the superstar like that. As I've said before, Doc Rivers is personally tutoring him this offseaosn in summer camps and at the Goodwill Games. Plus, he's likely going to be the starting SG next season alongside Hill and McGrady.

Add in the fact that the Magic don't have to trade him to get $10+ million under the cap (just renounce free agents and trade Outlaw), and it makes no sense. Sam Smith is just throwing stuff against the wall.

I'm willing to bet anyone that Miller is not traded - to Chicago, Houston, or anywhere this offseason. Any talk is just that - talk. Any takers?

Outlaw can be had, though. Cheaply, too.

Miller's tock is as high as it will be, at least until Hill or McGrady gets hurt to get him more minutes.
Miller is a nice player but he will not get as many minutes with Grant coming back. Also I sincerely doubt if he would have won ROY in most years, last year was just a weak year for Rookies.
He is a nice player and he will surely get back-up minutes to both Hill and McGrady and I would anticipate Grant playing some PG to get him someadditional minutes. At the same time Orlando sees his stock as very high and are looking around to see what may be availalble.

I don't think Miller is untouchable, even thought he is McGrady's "bestfriend". I am sure that if they can get "values" for Miller, McGrady would agree to it. With that said, I don't think they will trade him. I think he will see enough minutes through backing up Hill & McGrady and also having all 3 on the floor at the same time. I think they will look at him as instant offense off the bench, something that we had with Mobley when he was the 6th-man.

What do you guys think about that MJ rib injury rumor in that same article? It's a little too conspiracy to me.

I think your $10m is way too high:

Darrell Armstrong $4,130,500
Michael Doleac $2,000,856
Pat Garrity $1,569,691
Grant Hill $10,865,250
Tracy McGrady $10,865,250
Mike Miller $2,494,080

That's about $10m under the cap, BUT that makes the following assumptions:

1) Orlando can get rid of Bo Outlaw's $5,062,500 salary without taking on a similar contract in return. (Outlaw has 4 years remaining for about $23m).

2) You can renounce the contracts of Amaechi, DeClerq & Hutson since these are player options. I believe it's their choice not the Magic. Add back another possible $3.2m!!

Unless Orlando can get rid of Outlaw, Amaechi, DeClerq and Hutson without taking on other contracts, they are only about $2m-$3m under for the coming season.

With 7 contracted players, 3 (non-starting) POp's, and enough cap space for a low tier FA, it's easy to see why Miller would create trade rumors.

Oh, yeah - You have also neglected the $1.6M guaranteed contracts of picks 15 & 22 which I mentioned to you on another thread!!. So much for being $10M under the cap. [IMG]

I have a feeling that this rumor has Chicago roots moreso than Orlando roots. Let's just call it wishful thinking on Chicago's part.

Well PJ Brown was Alonzo Mourning's best friend and he was traded. Life goes on, they won't keep Miller just because he is "good friends" with Tracy McGrady. Especially if it helps make room for somebody like Antonio Davis.
