From a personal standpoint, Yao is truly an amazing person. Very humble and respective to others.

From a basketball standpoint, he has a ton of skills (shooting, passing) but lacks teh physical/conditioning aspects of the game

    Thoughts?

I think this has been discussed. The conclusion is

Yao'd be picked up by Knicks

If Yao were raised in America, I think he will more likey become an injury prone than a a truly dominant player.

For a big guy as tall as he is, if he could jump and often wants to jump, he definitely will have a short careeer.

A computer science geek who works part time as a P.I.M.P.. Can you imagine his opening line to the ladies: "Size 18...Can you dig it?"

But seriously, I think his career would have been accelerated a lot quicker , for instance, he would be a 20 pt 10 reb player by the time he was 21.

I remember there was an article posted a while back that mentioned Yao actually had a pretty good vertical when he was a teenager, but he badly hurt himself once in a game (jumping for a rebound?) so he doesn't try to jump any more after that to avoid injury.

i read on a chinese website that he had major surgery on his left leg in 1997-98.

he used to be able to jump 2 feet (vertical). too bad :( .

i think he'd be pretty dominant if he could jump 2 feet again.

what if yao was raised baptist in an Irish catholic school with a sadistic buddist mentor and a liberal soccer mom? and to make it interesting, spent summers with Wilt Chamberlain.

booze, guilt, delinquency , confusion and sex.

I think it's pretty safe to say, given all the variables, that Yao would be OCP 4 LIFE.

wouldn't change much here on the board, people would still assume he's from china, would still assume the majority of his votes came from china and would blame his weaknesses on the cultural things either inherant or adopted from his parents. plus half his salary would still be taken away by his home country.
