Good news for the PSP US launch. If this sells anywhere near as well as the console versions, then the PSP should be pretty successful. Of course, ever since the PSP was announced, a GTA has been rumored to been in the works. The thinking was that a real GTA game would never be on the PSP though, since the streaming would kill the battery quickly. So, either they figured out a way to make this game without draining the battery too bad, or they're going to try to make money off of the GTA name and create a game that is as much GTA as was GTA Advance. Some THUG 2 and Spiderman clips I saw from the PSP looked almost like their console counterpart, so perhaps they can do the same here, especially if Spiderman also has the free-roaming thing as well (I believe it does, but I haven't seen any clips off it in action). Oh and I guess Midnight 3 isn't bad either. Too bad there are already a lot of racing games it has to compete with (GT:Mobile, Ridge Racers, NFSU 2). The fact that these two will be available near launch is pretty interesting too. I was expecting a little later date since they barely announced this officially.
I know it has been out in Japan for a few weeks now and it sounds and looks awesome. They somehow got 1080i to work with it. I don't know too much about HDTV resolutions and how they correspond to games, but this is very hard to do with games from what I understand (1st PS2 game to do it, only a few for Xbox). I've read it is more of a trick than true 1080i, but still. Getting that to work while still keeping the game at 60 FPS may have been the reason for the delays. IGN has it as coming out on Feb. 22 for the US. I stopped keeping up with the GT4 release dates after a few delays, but I'm assuming this is right. Perhaps they can get online working by then.
