You list Erving, Barkley and Clyde in your top ten but Bird dominated those players back in the day...yes I said dominated. He was MVP in seasons where all on your list except Wilt and Russell were either in their prime or very close to their prime. Hmmmmm, something tells me that you did not watch much ball in the 80's. When Bird was on he was unstopable, not even MJ could slow him down. I also find it enteresting that you say you don't respect the pre 80s players as much and yet 5 of your top 10 were in their prime before the 80s. Malone, Erving and Jabbar all reached their prime in the 70s and Wilt and Russell back in the stone age. ------------------ [This message has been edited by crash5179 (edited June 23, 2001).] [This message has been edited by crash5179 (edited June 23, 2001).]
I said that I had "little" respect for players before the 80s. That doesn't mean that I didn't respect some of them. And I have seen some of the defense that was played in the 80s, and I'll tell you this: Bird would not average 20 points in today's NBA. ------------------ Protrolls.com! Save Our Game Action Forum!

1. Wilt Chamberlain 2. Oscar Robertson 3. Magic Johnson 4. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 5. Michael Jordan 6. Hakeem Olajuwon 7. Isiah Thomas 8. Doctor J 9. Jerry West 10. Charles Barkley Definitely West, he is the freaking NBA logo you HAVE to include him! The reason I included Sir Charles is because I think he should be recognized as one of the smallest, and freakish PFs in NBA history, yet he dominated and destroyed bigger PFs, even Malone before Barkley started getting injured. If Barkley had a some quality players around him consistently he would have won a ring or two. ZRB, you said you had almost no respect for players in the 80s, yet you put many players that played more than 5 years in the 80s, but you don't put the 2nd most dominant player from the 80s next to Magic. If you have almost no respect for players from the 80s, you wouldn't put that many 80s players on your list....I am just pointing out that your statement contradicts your list.... ------------------ "I look kind of dumpy. Wow, I can't believe I forgot Larry Legend! Take out Dr J, and put in Larry Bird. You're right, Larry Bird wouldn't average 20 points a game today. He would score 30 points because he would be the best shooter, and the smartest player in the league. His rebounding would go up because nobody can rebound anymore, and the pace of the game has slowed down since the 80s so it would benefit him MORE! Larry Bird is a great player, he would be even better today. ------------------ "Win if you can, lose if you must but always cheat!" - Jesse Ventura
Fine, ZRB, before the 80s. Nevertheless, your statement still contradicts your list, because Erving, Jabbar, Wilt, and Russell all had their primes before the 80s. That is 4 of your top 10 players that played their best before the 80s. So again, I am pointing out that your statement still contradicts your list. ------------------ "I look kind of dumpy. Look at my butt. And what kind of shoes do they have me wearing? Also, you can say whatever you want about Larry Legend, but just about every basketball fan out there knows that both Larry and Oscar Robertson were much better than Clyde. ------------------ "I look kind of dumpy. Let me spell this out for you: I have almost no respect for players before the 80s. I didn't say no respect, I said, almost no respect. That means that I do have some respect for a few of the players before the 80s. Forgive me. I did not follow basketball until 94. All I know about basketball before then is through classic games. I'm sure that I'm wrong about everything. ------------------ Protrolls.com! I wish I could come up with a decent signature, but I can't. You'll just have to live with this one. Again ZRB, almost no respect isn't almost half of your top 10 players having their primes before the 80s. Almost no respect would be 1 or 2... ------------------ "I look kind of dumpy. I think Dr J was pretty much past his prime when Bird was hitting his. There's NO way Bird in the 80's dominates Dr J in the 70's. ------------------

LilStevie3 is a tenacious lil dude. He's bringing big mean ZRB to his knees. ZRB, If you didn't follow basketball till 1994, then you really can't have an idea of how great Bird was. He would still be a great player today. And I agree, you're a TWITTING MORON! ------------------ "I had mine chewed off by a boss one time." -- Behad leaves us wondering if he gets hazard pay...

I watched my first game in 80s when Lakers won the last 2 championships. It happened that every time I watched, it "seemed" that Kareem would miss a game winner sky hook, and Magic would dominate Drexler. However, since some people told me that Kareem dominated Chamberlein once he entered the league, I suppose he was better than Chamberlein and Russel. 1. Jordan 2. Jabbar 3. Chamberlein 4. Magic 5. Bird 6. Robertson 7. Elgin Baylor 8. Hakeem 9. Shaq 10. Russel ------------------
