I keep seeing this "True Rocket fans" being posted, but when you say Rockets fans are very happy we have Yao on our team, Don't you mean the Yao Ming fan club is happy we have Yao? Used better? you think he is a puppet on a string? Hardly Yao gets ample time and opportunity to get into the "scheme" of things.. Again Yao lacks Killer Instinct, It's sad when an older Center dominates the boards better than your #1 draft pick. I see Yao as some big PR move to get more tickets sold and more merchandise sold...Rockets used to be the lowest on the totem pole when it came to sales in merchandise, now were in the top 10. The guy is a wonderful person off the court and I wish nothing but the best for him BUT when it's time to punch that time card and play ball you should have a different mentality. Yao don't need to go to China for the summer he needs to go to the BattleGrounds and the Streetball tourneys and learn some skills!
Question to all.... Would you have been dissapointed if I told you that Yao would be a 18.5/8.5/51% FG/80% FT type player in his 3rd year when we drafted him?? Granted, their are games and areas where he needs improvement but as a whole, he is doing fairly well.
You need some perspective. By any measure, a player who average 19 and 8 shooting 50% from the field is an all-star - especially a player who commands double teams and creates open opportunities for others. There is a huge gap between a good player and someone who "sucks". And please do not bring up the ridiculous - he's 7'5" so he should dominate crap. When was the last time any 7'5" player had the athleticism to dominate. He's a good player, a legitimate all-star. He may not be Hakeem good but he's a lot better than some former #1 picks. And it doesn't take a Yao only fan to realize this.
Yao has better number than KGs first 3 seasons...How is he already labeled a failure? Most of this crap is coming from the same people who say give JVGs system more time. So why such a hurry you morons?
If anybody knows a little chinese and didn't read this link, please do. http://sports.sohu.com/20050108/n223847440.shtml Yao's slow reaction is related with the flu since the game of Bucks. It is obvious yesterday Yao has slow mothion in the first half and is much better on the second half. I don't think a guy like Mihm can always go against Yao like yesterday. Look at what he did in the first game of this season. When big men make mistakes, it is usually easily seen. No one talks about the topic he has only missed one game since his first NBA game. Compared to 2002, only Yao and Taylor are in this team. Obviously "Be Part of something Big" is around Yao. There are reasons among these 20+ plus players, CD chooses Yao to build around. How many guys on this BBS have a closer look at Yao than CD does? I am expecting Yao's stats will go continuously up after All-Star. Another expectation is, this year, Rocket will not go less than last year.
People says Yao you soft but this yrs his average at the freethrow line is about 8 to 9 a games. That aggressive and as soon as he take the 22fts jumper he will be a superstar. He still unsure if he should shoot the 22 ft jumper. I watch him get open all the time from that range.
