You can say that every other team wants Yao. But the porblem is he is hurting his current team. If there is something wrong with him, lay it out. And sit until he can help the team. I would have no problem with that. Lately, he has been a huge dead weight.

The Rockets are using Yao in the wrong way. Yao is not a joke. To expect him to be the next Shaq that plays with only his back to the basket is a joke. Face it people, Yao is reduced to Kelvin Cato in non posting up possessions. His shooting and passing are going to waste. Yao has no freedom to play his face up game. No wonder he is disinterested. The third quarter is an example of why the back to the basket approach shouldn't be the only way to involve Yao. Yao didn't impact the game much with his posting up in that quarter. What he did was to lurk around the basket, get deep position, sometime FACING the basket, receives a quick pass and boom, he scores. He's being created by his teamates and his finishing ability is maximized in that kind of play. The result is 37 points in that quarter. Yao need to face the basket and develop his face up game more. It gives him more chances near the basket. It involves him and teammates more. It gives him the freedom he needs to be interested and confident. The overemphasis on the set low post play is forcing Yao into a round hole and his all around skills are regressing.

Yao has drawn the Rik Smitts comparison from TMac He is getting the same from NBA analysts more and more. But he isn't playing as well as Smitts. One comment Tim Legler made stuck with me "Yao is probably as good offensively as he will get" Why because he is slow and clumsy and does not have the quickness or athleticism to attack the basket. I am glad Yao is averaging 18.5 pts. but those points are contributing to wins. They are not enough for him to be the 2nd option. Is his value at its highest in the league right now? It could be. Can he become a 22 pt, 10 reb player - That is looking doubtful. Yao may get stronger and learn more, but he won't get quicker and may not be any less clumsey than he is. One thing ESPN brought up- every great center that ever played started out great, they couldn't think of one center that started slow for three seasons and then took a dramatic improvement.
