LOL. The Magic won only 19 games in the weak East last season. How many games do you expect them to win in the tough West? 10?
Read my post carefully. I said that with Yao at 5, the Suns would not worry about the fast coming young Rockets with TMac + Amare. Yao can take Amare straight out of the game leaving TMac hopelessly battling the likes of Marion + JJ + Q + Nash + Yao 1 on 5. Sure the Suns are playing great small ball. But I think that they can also go half court with Yao in the paint. All the other 4 starters can shoot from outside, penetrate and dish/draw fouls/score. I just feel that the Suns can take the Spurs with Yao in the middle. Sure Amare scored 37 against the Spurs, but a majority of the points came in garbage time when the lead was close to 30. Amare played no defense and he cannot alter shots in the paint like Yao do. Parker/Ginobili had a field day penetrating the lane and scored. BTW, I am neither a Fakers fan nor a Suns fan.
Yes he is worth keeping, and you know, maybe JVG too. The problem with the sports world today is the instant gratification sydnrome. Did anybody really think we were going to win a championship this year...or last year for that matter. Kevin Garnett still doesnt have a ring, and he is better than either Tmac or Yao. so i guess the wolves should get rid of KG. this talk is insane. its a gamble, and one we should take. get off your fairy tale syndrome because yao hasnt peaked yet.
Don't let shawn hear you say that, he thinks that Yao is following Kevein Garnett same foot steps in the league...
Yao is definetly a unique player... Time and Time again I hear people talking about who he plays like, who he might be, but when it comes down to it, Yao=Yao... A player within his own roots!!! Remember when they compared Jerry Stackhouse to Micheal Jordan.. What a JOKE it seems now.. Well comparing Shaq and Garnett to Yao is a JOKE TOO!!!
Dude get over it. We had an argument so wat it happines all the time, so stop trolling. Drop it allready. & my sig dosnt suggest he is following in his footsteps but rather that he needs time.
Shawn, Can u take a joke... It was just a fiqure of speech!! Can we at least be friends.. No more fighting!! truce???
im comparing them because you guys are down on yao and jvg and the whole team and for what. we got pretty much the same record as last year, when we were ten over and backed our sorry buts into the playoffs by losing 7 or 8 of 10. we are a better team than last year, hands down. yao aint doin bad for someone who only played against americans in world games. the competition he had in china pales in comparison. he will be great.
Yao's unselfishness is killing his game. JVG is telling him to be more aggressive and be like a traditional center that will hit the boards and block a lot of shots. He has gotten more easy shots this year due to putbacks, dunks, and layups. I just question if this is what is best for Yao in his path to being a great player. I see KG and Dirk Nowitzki. Both guys aren't the typical players you see at guys that height, but they are very skilled. Many team execs said Dirk Nowitzki would revolutionize the small forward position. I think many said the same of KG. I've read many comment that Yao would revolutionize the center position. What has happened to make Yao into just a typical grunt roleplaying center? If Yao is trying to adapt his game to fit his teammates, then he is being too unselfish. When Dirk was drafted in 1998, the Mavericks with Don Nelson didn't really try to change Dirk. They just told him to play his game. When Dirk got better at his game, the team naturally played better. The same can be said of KG when the Twolves drafted him. The Twolves were garbage though, so the expectations of playoffs weren't exactly quite there when he was drafted. However, Flip Saunders didn't try to force KG to be what he wasn't. KG became better. Twolves got better because of that. At times this season, I felt that Yao was best off being a roleplayer to help the team win. However, the more I see him having to fight for time with Dikembe makes me think that is a wrong path for Yao to take. Yao is hindering his own development as a skilled big man to try to help the team win now. That is totally unselfish, and I think that is a flaw of Yao that will ultimately be a tragic one if he has any intentions of making a lasting mark in the NBA.
I can understand your point somewhat!!! But what everyone wants is there expectations of what they thought of Yao confirmed!! Everyone's viewpoint of Yao Ming is different.. I was actually convinced when Yao came into the leaque that he was going to be a Shaq or at least a very dominant player in the Western conference.. I didn't think that his first year or two he would, but at least starting to show signs of dominance in his game.. But for some reason I think that his style of play is him and it isn't really going to change much.. I was listening to 610 when Van Gundy was on air and someone asked the coach will Yao every become that player of dominance like Shaq, and Van gundy said that Yao personiality doesn't match a guy that would resemble a Shag mentaility of dominance.. He is really a nice and shy type of guy...
First time poster here.... but remember that when Yao first enter the NBA for the first few games, he is consider the biggest bust in history on those performance by most sport analyst? He has since had some good games and some bad games (inconsistent) but improving on inconsistency (more good games then bad games now). My point here is that he seem like the type of player that will gradually improve as oppose to leaps and bounds such as Amare especially with hardly any time in the summer to work on his game. So I guess we can only wait a bit longer...
Wow! Nine pages on this thread. All I can say is that if you want the Rockets to become what the Magic did after letting Shaq go, then go right ahead and left him "escape" to the Lakers. Then we all can spend our time wading through all of the "It was Stupid to Let Yao Go" posts for the next 5 years.
Again, we know he CAN have a "dominating" mindset on the court when he feels comfortable...as we saw in the olympics. I just think that he hasn't fully acclimated yet to the NBA and is not comfortable in VG's offense.

In your first post, you observed something only the best coaches (Phil Jackson etc) in the business ever pointed out. Congratulations! That's why none of us fans can find any job that's NBA related. We are just damn r****ded!
