How can this cat pass up on an offer like this <$14 million/7years> from the Astros? If he declines then we don't need him anyways.

False. Enron only paid the money to buy the naming rights. Ironically, they did so AFTER the ballpark was under contruction. It was the voters that passed the referendum to issue the bonds. Many voters did so because of either their love of the team (in a lot of cases because of quality people like Bags and Bidge) or because they thought we were building a winner (led by Bags and Bidge).

Wow, if that's correct, 15M/7Yr is a great offer.

If he doesn't end up signing with Houston, then I hope that the true numbers come out so that at least everyone will know that Drayton made a VERY fair offer.

We had a good run last year Carlos...let's finish this thing right next season....

if berman is right then its 7 years at 102mil... with the buyout.. maybe the buyout is 5 mil so its 7 years at 105.. or 8 year 114 if they pick up the 8th year

I applaude Drayton for giving Beltran such a strong offer and for refusing to be lured into a bidding war with himself a la Tom Hicks. I hate Scott Boras. Drayton didn't amass a billion dollar empire by being stupid.

It'll be down to 895,000,000 Million Dollar empire after Beltran. It's scary just thinking about numbers like that. holy crap.

Man Uncle Drayton came through...If Beltran does not sign then its his problem because we can not fault Drayton because 7 years at 102 million or 8 years for 116 is damn good esp when you factor in life in NY!

For some reason I think either this has been the final offer that has been on the table for a while and Boras just leaked it trying to get others to raise it (once everyone has made thier offer) or the 'Stros know something that makes them believe he will sign else where and they leaked this info, true or not, so the fans wouldn't be pissed they didn't do everything they could.

But, I could be wrong and I certainly hope it's the former which would probably put the 'Stros as the front-runners.

Man these guys get so much more than money in their contracts....check out what Randy Johnson had in his contract in Arizona...not only do they get a butt load of money they get so many perks.

Johnson's current deal also calls for him to receive two courtside tickets for Phoenix Suns games through the 2010-11 season and six premium tickets for all Diamondbacks games starting with the first season of his retirement through 2010. Arizona will retain responsibility for that part of the contract.

I'm sick of this melodrama. Beltran should be a man and make a decision.

He might be the premier freeagent this year but through his agent he's acted like an expensive prima donna.

If I had a crystal ball and I was the GM. I would have signed Vlady last year and Beltre this year. For a combined $139mil, you get two players who put up better numbers than he did, will offset Kent's run production and are franchise-calibre players.

Don't get me wrong I'd love to have CB back in Stros uniform but if this backfires, the Stros are in a for a long season.

Gerry would have handled this better than McLane/Purpurra if you ask me.

Gerry HATES Boras.... with a passion (like most vet GM's do). And, Drayton still would have had as prominent of a role.

All the moves made thus far have been what the Hun would do anyways (minus picking up Biggio's option). He probably would not have made that sweet offer to Kent, and it was ultimately Drayton's call to non-tender Miller (which I can't fault them with either... 4 million is way too risky for him).

Richard Justice with a pretty scathing article about Beltran, that basically calls him a liar.

Hey jackhole, why don't you wait until he makes his final decision before writing an article like this?

    move along, richard. move along.
