I have three movies on my computer that I want to turn into DVD's that I can watch on a normal DVD player. I tryed burning one of them with Nero Vision Express 2 and the sound ended up being out of sync with the picture half way through the movie. I know I need to use a decoder to change the AVI into an MPEG (Which can fix the sound problem and I downloaded a decoder and it ended up producing an MPEG with no sound at all! So, does anyone know of a program that may be able to help me out. It needs to be easy to use because quite frankly....I dont really know a great deal about all of this stuff.
Yes I agree with jcantu to checkout vcdhelp.com. That's where I learned how to convert .AVI to .MPEG (for VCD or DVD burning). I use TMPEGEncoder for the conversion. Sometimes I have to use VirtualDub to rip the audio first. Check this link out for detailed instructions: http://www.videohelp.com/divxtovcd.htm. Goodluck!
Chris... TMPGenc It is the easiest way I have found to do that. If you need any help with it..email me and as already noted....videohelp.com is a great site for all things a/v related
I hope I'm not hijacking this thread but wanted to ask those of you who regularly convert DIVX and XVID files to MPEG a question: how come when I convert XVID files to MPEG using TMPGEnc it seems very choppy? I've tried ripping the audio first using VirtualDub and then encoding the MPEG but still the same results. Everything runs fine with no errors but when I watch the MPEG video it seems choppy (audio is fine, video is choppy). I don't think it's my system specs: P4 2.4ghz w/1gig RAM with latest DIVX/XVID codecs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
You can convert AVIs straigt to DVD (vob, ifo etc.) and burn it using WinAVI Video Convertor http://www.winavi.com/ It works extremely fast!
what bitrate are you encoding it ? when I load a avi into TMPGenc to convert to mpeg2...I alwasy set it to 8000....does just fine.
Wow....this seems to be the one I'll go with. The picture quality falls a little bit, but that was probably because of the settings I used. This took the AVI file and tunred it into a ready made DVD that I just had to burn. It was very quick and VERY easy to use....which is what I needed. Anyway, thanks everyone for all your help. Ive leared alot from every single bit of info thats been posted.
Tommyboy - could be that you are encoding into the wrong format - PAL or NTSC. You need to check the framerate of the source xvid using a utility such as gspot (available for free at www.videohelp.com). If the frame rate is 23.xx or 29.xx then it is NTSC. If it is 25 fps then it is PAL. Just use the correct TMPGENC template.
