NBC's 'Fear Factor' Sued for Rat-Eating Episode

Wed Jan 5, 4:03 PM ET Entertainment - Reuters TV

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Watching contestants eat dead rats on NBC's gross-out stunt show "Fear Factor" so disgusted a Cleveland man that he has sued NBC for $2.5 million, saying he could not stomach what he saw.

In a handwritten four-page lawsuit filed in federal court in Cleveland on Tuesday, paralegal Austin Aitken said, "To have the individuals on the show eat (yes) and drink dead rats was crazy and from a viewer's point of view made me throw-up as well an another in the house at the same time."

His suit added, "NBC is sending the wrong message to its TV watchers that cash can make or have people do just about anything beyond reasoning (sic) and in most cases against their will."

He said the show caused his blood pressure to rise so high that he became dizzy and light-headed, and when he ran away to his room, he bumped his head into the doorway.

In a brief telephone interview with Reuters, Aitken said, "I am not at liberty to discuss the complaint unless it is a paid-interview situation."

A spokesman for "Fear Factor" said the show would have no comment until it sees a copy of the complaint. The spokesman said the program did feature an rat-eating scene in New York's Times Square on Nov. 8.

Over the years, contestants on the program have eaten some weird things, including ground-up spiders and live worms.

If I were the judge I would make this jackass pay for all the legals involved on both sides to teach him a lesson.

You must be more of a stud than previously thought if you can click Janet Jackson's boobie.

Pretty much the definition of a frivolous lawsuit.

I agree to the fact that I detest all those shows that require contestants to eat something not meant for human consumption. And this pisses me off, because I actually like Fear Factor, but I have to turn the channel when that segment airs. Same with Survivor and The Amazing Race.

That being said, a funny thing happened a few nights ago. I was watching FF, when they started the "let's eat dogcrap" segment, so I turned to channel...just in time to see the shark in Jaws 2 munching down on someone. Do you think animals have their own version of Fear Factor?

Maybe it's just me, but that segment of the show. Sure it's disgusting, but this show proves some people will do anything for money....well in this case do anything for a chance at winning some.

How about more celebrities on there eating say monkey balls? That's entertainment!

    again...why would you care? there's a remote.

i don't dwell on the shows on TV that i don't watch. if others enjoy it...good for them. why would you care if the show is on or off...surely you have something better to do with your life than watch a show that you don't like.

So true, there are hundreds of people who come out for these casting call and as long as you have people wanting to be on these shows and they get rating they'll keep hitting the airwaves.

Are you even allowed to go on that show if you don't have enormous fake boobs?

He must be ignoring the part before every scene where you can puss out if you don't want to eat that crap. And who says that just because it's beyond his reasoning means that it's beyond everyone else in america's reasoning?
