I think most people agree that our biggest need on this team is a bruising 4, and I think most would agree again that next on the wish list would be a really solid backup at the 3 spot. Anyone think the Bobcats might bite on a Gaines for Steve Smith deal? Yes, Smith is there because he's an expiring contract, but Gaines is pretty close himself; he only has 2 seasons left with a team option for a 3rd. Houston gets a solid veteran shooter to spell McGrady for, oh, 10 minutes per game or so, and the Cats get another young guy to try to develop. Personally, I think even if Gaines was gonna turn into anything, it wouldn't happen here, so there'd be no real loss on our part. Thoughts?
Steve Smith is a real good shooter, but he has nothing left to play any defense what so ever. I think Charlotte likes him for more than just his talent and contract. He brings good veteran leadership and direction to a otherwise young and inexperienced roster. I say both teams would pass.
how old can this team get????? i agree that we need a backup 3 that can shoot. i would like ot see one of our 4's moved for a 3. that would make room to bring in a 4 that can rebound. maybe we can trade mo to the lakers for george and medvedenko. rudy loves mo and has benched medved. the lakers don't really need george with all of the wing players they have now, but they could use another PF. yao-deke-spoon JHo-medved-pad mac-george-bowen wes-barry-gaines sura-AB-ward
No need, we have Tmac, Smith would just sit on the bench, and I would rather take a chance on having ONE guy develop on the Rockets. DD
I agreee - Smith is too old - we don't need a 3 that can shoot (we got Barry and Wesley to shoot when Bowen is on the floor) - we need a 3 that an D up (... again I point to Bowen)
Gaines is doing nothing this year. Smith would be a nice guy to bring off the bench for spot duty and play 5-10 mins a game. I wouldnt mind doing it.
