Mike Stoops left nut>>>>> Bo Pelini...The same DBs look great under Stoops and look like they should play for Baylor under Pelini... Good luck with that one, Syracuse...
I had no idea USC had it in 'em. Wow. I'm not adovcating this position...but do you think Stoops is gonna catch some flack nationally? in Norman?? 3 big games in the past 2 years where his team got trounced. 2 of those they got literally driven in the ground. i'm betting someone's gonna spin that towards his preparation.
It's not like they weren't up for the game, they had a great first drive...Stoops was not the one throwing interceptions and making stupid mistakes. His team DID quit on him though.
i don't disagree with any of your points...i'm talking about perception, though. if his team quit on him, will he take heat??? justified or not. i'm not talking about preparing the offense for a first drive, either.
This is bigtexxx checking in from my 18th floor balcony at the hotel in Miami. Beautiful day down here, in case you're wondering. Nice sea breeze and lots of sun. The experience yesterday was pretty amazing. I come down the elevator at 4:30 to meet the rest of our party for the game, and there are 3 black gentlemen sitting in the lobby by themselves. Shaq, Roy Williams (from the Cowboys) and some dude who was enormous that I didn't recognize. Probably another Heat player I'd guess, but I'm not sure. Shaq is an f'ing huge human. A couple of people who were with me went and got their picture made with him, but bigtexxx is above that type of man-crush behavior. We got into the limo and set out on what we thought would be a 30 minute drive from the Mandarin Oriental hotel to Pro Player Stadium. It took 2.5 hours and we barely made it time for kickoff just after 8. The traffic was awful. Not only was it 5pm rush hour traffic, but everybody was trying to go to the game, as well. The bar inside the limo was well stocked, but we made sure it wasn't well stocked by the time our journey was complete. The cops had blocked the main entrance to the stadium (wtf??!?!?), and after my buddy stuck his head out the top of the limo and cursed at them, we decided it would be better to just get out of the limo and walk across the parking lot in order to catch kickoff. Our seats were at the 30 yard line, 15 rows up. Excellent view to say the least. The ABC crew on the field was right down from us. John Saunders, Craig James and whoever that big dude is were down there. Got up close views of Puff Daddy, Ashlee Simpson and Kelly Clarkson. As I'm sure you guys saw on tv, the game sucked a fatty, especially with the mood of the Oklahoma fans I was there with. The halftime show started out pretty good with what I thought was a good performance from Kelly Clarkson, then Trace Adkins played some crappy song, then Ashlee put on perhaps the most pathetic performance I've ever heard live. Just awful. She was LOUDLY booed at the end of it. Somebody told me that the booing was edited off of the tv broadcast, so for those of you not at the game, it was LOUD. The booing when her name was introduced was bad, but after her performance it was really, really loud. We left the game towards the end of the 3rd quarter and promptly finished off the remaining booze in the limo. The game itself sucked, but the experience was kick-azz.
I had a buddy that played tenors for USC for a couple years two seasons ago. Their drumline was corps-quality.
Well I still would've preferred a Cal win but I'll take this. Its good to know that Cal played USC a lot tougher than the supposed second ranked team in the country and winner of the Big 12 Take that Big 12! Go Pac 10 (Except for Stanfurd..)
And yet strangely, Oklahoma didn't have any trouble with Oregon (which Cal almost lost to) or Tech (made Cal look like a JV team).
Lets not forget they shut out UT. I make no apologies for Cal's performance at the Holiday Bowl. Tech deserved it because Cal didn't come to play. I'm convinced Cal's a much better team than Tech but they overlooked them and were rattled while Tech played their A game.
Couldn't you say the same thing about OU? Cal got spanked almost as badly as they did. We need a best-of-seven playoff in College football, damnit!
I'll agree with that. I have a hard time thinking that OU overlooked USC, they were playing for the national championship and not some crappy second tier bowl game. Unless OU was pissed that they weren't playing Auburn. I haven't see OU play at all this year but I'm guessing this might not have been their best game but for CAL I know that in other games they wouldn't have made the same kind of mistakes, like two personal fouls in a row on a critical drive, as they did in the Holiday Bowl.
As picked pick USC giving up the 3 points, I was with these guys. Bob Stoops does need to shut up-- "We didn't do this, didn't do that, thus we lost". So OU doesn't make those TOs and mistakes, OK, the score is 31-10 USC instead. Big whoop. He needs to face the fact the last 2 teams he faced in NC games had better football players and athletes all over the field. LSU's blunders kept that score from getting out of hand. That is the story. And yes the Big 12 has been way overrated the last 2 years. Aside from OU's defense last year, no defenses near what the SEC (Auburn/LSU) and USC has been producing (and possible the ACC--Miami, VTech, FSU). There can't be any Jason White defenders left can they? The Heisman is an embarrasment now. With system players like White and Torreta getting it, nothing special left with it. I don't blame White, his heart and effort is noteworthy, he just doesn't have that much talent and excelled only if he all day to pass. Manny, I am still think on your next sig once the Pro Bowl roster is annouced. I told you Vilma would be ready though, so it wasn't like I was just out for Canes
Good post, Scar. Yea, it looks like Sean Taylor didn't quite have the rookie year I expected but he still should be a Pro Bowl candidate for many seasons to come. I was happy to see Vilma win Defensive Rookie of the Year - man can he flat out hit someone! Also, good to see D.J. Williams off my beloved Broncos get some votes. AND don't forget another U of M star in Ed Reed got Defensive Player of the Year. So, even though this season was forgettable if you were a Miami fan, you can always take solace in how well the former Canes are doing in the NFL.
