If someone who lives in Houston wants to take guitar lessons, where/who is the best? Also, any idea of prices?

All I have ever heard is Rockin' Robin. Enough of you are musicians so I thought I would see what you have to say.

This is not for me, by the way. I would send any teacher into retirement.

I just bought a guitar myself and was thinking about posting something like this.

I'm on the Northwest side, in case someone can give locations.

    Thanks

I used to take lessons at Evans Music City...I dont remember the price but I do remember that they were cheaper than other places I looked at and the teacher was pretty cool also.

Rockin' Robin has a number of good guitar teachers. They can definitely hook you up.

Lessons at Rockin' Robin are 4 for $75... Not sure how it compares to other places though.

That's pretty comparable. Most places are anywhere from $15 to $30 per.

Oh, and those are half hour lessons, by the way...

(remembering the good old days of middle school bass lessons... $100 for 4 one-hour lessons in the comfort of my own home... sigh)

Aren't there some computer programs that would work as well a a live teacher for cheaper.

Also didn't I see a computerized guitar that uses lighted finger positions to teach.

    Traditional lessons seem so inconvenient.

Not close. They can give you basics, but they can't point out when your technique is bad or when there is something you could be doing differently to help yourself. "Live" teachers provide valuable feedback that you can't get from a program or video.

Besides, learning an instrument is VERY inconvenient. It takes time and focus just like anything else. If you are going to do it, may as well do it in a way that gives you the best chance to learn and be good at it.
