Yes, I believe he is innocent! He has been with Rockets family forever. BUT do we want a man like him as a Rocket Icon? I believe it came out in his trial that he has numerous illegitimate children and hardy given them anything while treating his legitimate children well. Didn’t he also nearly lose his job over falsifying expense reports?
Hell yes I believe he should come back. We need Calvin, he is a nice guy and a huge part of the Rockets. And who are you or anybody else to be judging Calvin's morals? Who he sleeps with and how many children he fathers and how he treats them (which none of us truly know for sure) should be absolutely irrelevant to the question of him coming back. Hell, if they were to put you or me or anybody else under a public microscope of scrutiny, they would find something that makes us look less than saintly.
I want him back too....I dont care how many kids he has...he can have 30 more for all I care...I just want him to broadcast Rockets games.
Given the fact that his basketball school's enrollment increased after the accusations, I'd say the Rockets wouldn't have to worry about a stir if they hired him back. Honestly, I don't care either way. We make all the comments about the game before the announcers do anyway. We end up throwing on some tunes and muting the game. It's a nice way to watch.
Even if he would have been found guilty, he would have always been considered a Rockets icon. He's been with the team forever. That and Bill Worrell's intolerable without him.
I don't know...am I the only one who can look past Van Chancellor's accent and see that he does do some pretty good analysis? Calvin was an excellent personality, but at times he would become quite annoying. I grew weary of him always talking about himself and reflecting on his NBA days. Van is a good basketball mind.
no, this is pretty much how I feel. They are both overblown characters in one form or another, but Van is a better analyst.
I'll admit Van Chancellor has grown on me, and I never thought that would happen. But there's no better broadcasting duo in the NBA than Bill Worrell and Calvin Murphy. And since Murph was found not guilty, I don't think there's anything wrong with the Rockets rehiring him. 14 kids from 9 different women is an embarrassment, but it's not like he's the only one guilty of that in the NBA.
i like Van and he always brings good analysis. It's fun to hear him predict either team's plays, like an out of bounds play, before it happens and then watch it play out just as he described. But Calvin's the man. The games are always more exciting when he's on the stick. Calvin's enthusiasm is contagious, and his one-liners are better than Van's. Wish we could keep both of them. Maybe Van could steal Coop's job?
I'm with you also. When Calvin talks basketball, he is fine. Unfortunately he only spends about half or the time on basketball. Ther is a reason that caricture of him has a cookie, while Bill is talking. Though the clothing selection is a bit mono-chromatic. And to Aceshigh. The way a man treats his children is important. Just because he is not molesting his daughters does not make him a good man. You just have tos et the bar higher than that. It is pretty obvious that he is having trouble with at least four of his kids. I would not hire or not him him based on that, but yes I would have a lowered opinion of any man for having let a relationship with his children deteriorate that far.
close this thread, the answer is an obvious yes, at the rate we're going maybe I should start a thread, 'Does 2 + 2 equal 4, I mean really, Does it?' Hut
Let him without sin cast the first stone. BTW, last I checked the Rox were a basketball team, not a charity or church.
I guess I am one of the very few who does not miss Calvin and found his schtick irritating and distracting to the game. I agree he knows his ball and can be insightful ... when he talks about basketball. The problem is he only talks basketball about 3 minutes per game, the rest of the time he is talking about ... Calvin.
