The SHAQ alley oop dunk Those of you who watch Shaq play know what i am talking about. if someone fronts him a tad, he will spin around him and go up for an alley oop dunk Granted, Yao lacks the athleticism but being 7"6, all he has to do it time his jump and slam it home. This will surely help solve the quick fronting d against Yao why this works: - in order for smaller defenders to gain position, they usuallly have to play lower to gain leverage, this will allow the lob
Yao has done this in the past. The problem is that Yao isn't quite as nimble as Shaq. I saw them try this once during this season and nearly get Yao killed. I would rather not see them do it if it means having Yao fall on his backside and possibly hurt himself.
I recall seeing he and Francis try it a few times and even recall seeing Yao throw it to Francis for an alley-oop too. Its a great move that brings the house down but I don't think anyone besides Cato a few years back had it as a staple move. IMO if Yao's going to learn a move from a former Laker it should be the Kareem skyhook. Extending his arm straight up he could throw it down from a foot over the basket even with his crappy vertical.
that was during last year's all-star game though, not a real game. It was weird seeing Yao being able to catch alleyoops that that day. Its also weird watching him crash the boards sometimes... its like 'he can do it, I'm not imagining things!'
the move that yao needs to really learn is to start dunking on people and maybe throwing an elbow or two.
How many of them are on people and actually show authority and that he owns the paint? Maybe 1% of them. He really needs to show that his territory is the paint and make others know it.
