This guy is old but still could help this for 20-25 minutes. He plays hard his stats per 48 mins are twice as better that Howard and Mo. Let him try playing PF cause its not like it could get any worse than Mo and Howard. Mutombo is 9th in the NBA in Offensive Rebounds Per 48 Minutes with 5.6, 2nd in Blocks Per 48 Minutes with 4.77, and 15th in Rebounds Per 48 Minutes with 14.5. I knows those stats are inflated but this guy deserves a chance. He is a real good guy who is helping almost every charity around Houston and he helped build a hospital in Africa. The Chroncile has a real good story tommarow on how he helps millions of kids in Africa.

Imagine Deke an yao at the same time trying to defend the likes of wilcox or howard?... noway in hell deke should be playing power forward.

There is no issue.....his lateral movement is not quick enough to defend PF. They would eat him up and get him in foul trouble.

It wouldn't be too different from Mo or JH playing.

I dont know, but for the sake of argument, let me start a rumor...

JVG specifically prohibited him from doing the "finger-wave" anymore, yet he did it anyways against one of the last 3 teams we played (can't remember which one), so JVG is benching him for violating his authority.

I sure hope that is a rumor.

The think I have wondered about though is did we give Mutombo some sort of no trade kicker or right of refusal to a trade to get him to come here? Remember, he was throwing a fit about playing in Chicago.

He is played purely based on the situation. I would like to see him get more PT since it seems to me even slow Deke is better defensively.

I wish people would stop suggesting Mutumbo at the PF or playing him 25 minutes per game. The REASON he is effective is because he plays limited minutes which keeps his energy high. He would get KILLED by opposing 4's. And if you think we are slow and don't run the floor well now, try putting him in there with Yao.

Thankfully for all of us, putting Deke in there for 25 minutes with time at the 4 is not an option.

25 min with Yao is way too much.

I still think 5-10 minutes of Yao+Deke in certain situations can be very effective.

Not all teams have a stud PF who can score outside.

Deke or Yao can defend bangers.

I think having Yao+Deke is actually good for our break. Right now, we have 4 people staying behind for defensive rebounds, and 1 looking to release. With Deke, we only need 3. Point can release as soon as the shot is put up, 2 can semi-release(near top of the key), we have a break situation each time they miss. Even if they give up offensive rebounding completely, the worst situation I can think off is a 3 on 3 with the ball in Tmac's hands. That is a very good situation for us.

When it comes to Deke's energy, I'm not too worried. I think Deke has 22 minutes in him. 5-10 minutes of well timed twin tower time, and 12-17 minutes of backup time is not too demanding IMO.

not to mention that you never know when you will NEED him to play 23-25 minutes because Yao is in foul trouble.
