    Which will prove most difficult?

    Considering our Cap situation

I know it is easy to just say remove JVG
    but
    What system should he implement
[taking that he ain't going no where]
and how difficult would that be?

I beleive i heard on TNT the other night, that SA is an uptempo defensive team, not offensive. But that uptempo defense can lead to alot of fast breaks for Parker and Ginobli.

We should be doing the same, rather than setting up for every offensive play so slowly, especially when every team in the league knows to leave our 1 or 4 open to double team T-Mac and Yao.

If you believe 82games.com, last year San Antonio was one of the worst teams scoring within 10 seconds of the shot clock starting. In other words, if you look at percentage of points scored between 14 and 24 seconds left on the shot clock, the Spurs and Pacers were within the bottom 5. The Rockets and Jazz were also in that group.

They take advantage of their opportunities, but they're not exactly flying down the court.

Part of the problem is that we outside of TMac got crap from Orlando, while giving up two starters and a great backup big man. At least, Lue is gone. To get rid of Howard (or MoTay) would require some sort of dead horse swap, which may not leave us better off after the trade (see the Weatherspoon trade). The Rockets best chance of beefing up the roster will be the draft and FA signings in the offseason.

While we play out the string, we need a new system designed to get Yao and Tmac working together and to get them multiple touches. That system is the triangle, with Yao in the high post.

    Benefits -

    ball goes in early
    scoring opportunity early
    multiple passes
short time holding ball for each player diffuses double trouble.
    gets each star touches
gets the other players involved, not just standing around
gets players in good spread position for rebounds
gets Tmac the post up and drive and Yao the jumper and passing
makes use of big albeit slow bodies (Mo, Juwon ) to set Tmac pick
makes use of big abeit slow bodies (sura, ward) to slash off Yao high
gets the stars playing together and passing with each other

What we have now is one at a time, last second, everyone stand around . It sucks, period. No body is getting any better with that "Skill Set".

Exactly. And the way they do take advantage of their opportunities is they REBOUND THE BASKETBALL.

If the Rockets did a better job of rebounding their defense would look a heck of a lot better (since their FG% against is good), and it would allow for more fast break opportunities plus offensive rebound put backs. Those easy points, and HIGH % shot attempts would really increase our FG% and improve our offense.

Overall, I dont think our system is too bad because we still are getting open jump shots but arent making them. I think getting a rebounder would do a world of good. So I feel getting a few better role players that mesh with Tmac and Yao would make a big difference.

since we already polled and know that over half of you hate JVG (so you will ALWAYS blame him) I would like to point this comment to the other 40+% who have an open mind about things.

You can't coach effort and you can't force Mo T to care

Mo T is my hero for standing up to that ego Maniac. Its time for Jeff Van Gundy to get his slow basketball and his sour attitude and go back to New York City with it!

Its time for a new System!

:D Yes my mind is closed:D

Bingo! The Clipps game being a strong example.

The Rox (primarily Taylor, Juwan & JJ) hit the shots they've been missing most of the season. When this happens, we see how of much of a real weapon McGrady is because he's a surprisingly good passer. So far this season, the scouting report is double TMac and Yao because no one can make a shot.

Barry for Lue didn't look like much on the surface. But if you didn't know better, you'd swear Barry had been here since pre-season. Great ball movement. I liked Tyronne but he just didn't appear to be a good post entry passer, dribbled a little too much IMO and stronger PG's were posting him up. You lose a little footspeed with Barry but the Rox play team D so it will minimized except for weakside 3's after ball movement.

One last thing. The Kings run a lot of backdoor and give and go type plays. IMO, Barry (a former King) will bring more of that to the Rockets.
