I wouldn't doubt that second-hand smoke is THAT much worse than pollen, although I have a hard time believing that pollen is just as bad for you. Regardless, the problem with your logic is that with one of those things, there is something that can be done about it.
Nope. My point is that rights are, once again, being taken away. Once again, if the ordinances were repealed due to new findings, you would be as ticked as I am. And I'm sorry, but disagreeing with me is disrespecting my rights. And JayZ... I'm killing other people by smoking in bars and outside? Go grow a tree.
Fatty, I think the time has come for you to dig-up the old Smoking Ban thread and just keep your responses ready for rebuttal or just post them in one long string....that way, we can bypass the wait! Naahhhh...what am I saying?? I want MORE gas on the Fire--THOSE are some good fumes!
Haven't enough of us already been permanently scarred from that thread? Do you really have bring more victims into it?
Meh, I paraphrased too much. Disagreeing with my smoking in designated areas is disrespecting my rights.
I have to say that I really disagree with you. If the Casino/Bar decides that its business would be better served without smokers than that is their choice as a business. This is not something that should be pushed or controlled by the government. If enough people did mind the smoke, the Casino would lose business and would not allow smoking, but it does not seem to be the case. As for the society pays for it, thats the real problem behind all of this. As we move towards a socialist society and the dems are pushing us towards, the government handles an increasing amount of healthcare costs of the people and therefore attempts to push legislation to control their lives to limit the underlying costs to the government. Heart disease is an issue, maybe the government should outlaw Junk food too? It comes down to a private enterprise should make its own decision based on its interest.
Right Khan...the Dems are pushing us to a socialist society, the damn commies....I bet it's their lack of control in the Whitehouse for the past and future 4 years and the minority in the House and Senate and Supreme Court that's making sure that their socialist agenda is being rammed down the throats of Americans like one of Stalin's 5 year plans. Really, YOU WON, enough with the inflammatory cheap shots...funny how the "Democratic Peoples Socialist Party" is the one calling for less spending and a balanced budget while god fearing, conservative Republicans run it to record highs and try and scrap the ONE government program that REALLY works-Social Security. I know it frightens you because "Social" is in the title, Mr McCarthy told you that Socialism and Communism are the same thing so it MUST be true. Sorry to rant, but your little BS comment can't go unchallenged... As to smoking, you are right, places of business have the right and necessity to decide if they allow smoking in designated areas--you no likey smoky in the Casino, then go ride the roller coaster on the needle or sit out by the pool....
Is or is not the reason that the government is getting involved with our health and lifestyle based on the fact that the government is having to pay for a greater percentage of it through social service programs??? It is quite straightforward that the democratic party is more socialist in nature. They believe more in government healthcare, welfare and other programs that have the government take more responsibility than the individual. I think its hard to refute those points.
Are you refuting that the Bush administration has one of the largest and most bloated BIG government in the history of this country?? That SPENDS at a breakneck pace? And yes, Dems DO want more basic services for people that benefit them and make us all stronger. BUT, it AIN'T happening with Republican control in all levels of Federal government. You have no one else to blame but your conservative brethren. Now, I AM a Democrat and I smoke cigarettes and own firearms, so I don't walk lock-step with all of the Democratic Party's goals. Unless you are simply a shill, which I don't get the impression you are, then I doubt you follow everyone of the Republican's party platform either. In either case, I don't think we should be sin taxing cigarettes or taking away a business owner's right to have a designated smoking section in his establishment, but I Do believe n social services over bloated missile defense programs. You elevate the lowest in our society and EVERYONE goes up.
I'm not a smoker but don't like the extent of anti-smoking bans. I think its reasonable to ban smoking in most work and public places but its going to far to institute blanket bans for things like bars. While smoking in bars isn't healthy but neither is drinking. Even if you choose not to drink your still subject to greater potential health risk from drunk drivers leaving the bar the same time you are. If you go to a bar to hear music you're also putting yourself at risk to hearing damage. Even a Jazz trio can play loud enough in a small space to cause hearing damage. We tolerate all of these because as adults in this society we are given the freedom to socialize and engage in risky behavior within the bounds of legality. If you don't like going to bars because of all the smoke don't go. Just the same as if you don't like going to a biker bar because of drunk bikers don't go. IMO to force a smoking ban on a bar is no different than forcing a bar to quit serving alcohol or to stop playing music. Like it or not tobacco is still a legal product and if we're going to ban its use even in bars we might as well get it over with and ban it altogether. In the meantime why not instead vote with your dollars. If most people don't like smoking don't go to places where people smoke. What gets me is that if there is such an outcry to ban smoking in bars why don't some bars voluntarily go smoke free and advertise that policy? Those bars should do very well from all of the non-smoking patrons and eventually that will encourage other bars to go smoke free on their own without having to have a heavy handed smoking ban. These bans are yet another example of government regulation where there are private sector solutions.
