Since taking it easy, I have come to realize that I'm packing a little insulation in the mid-section. What's a good way for me to lose 10-15 pounds in the next couple of months? I weigh 173 now and I want to get to around 160. Please note that I am referring to exercise and not some fad diet.
It's best to combine exercise with diet. With that said, start doing anything that will get your heart rate up for 30-60min 3-5 times a week. -Have (more) sex -Brisk walking -Light jogging You get the idea. If you combine that with some weight lifting to produce muscle, it'll burn more fat. Also, getting off the internet will help too. Oh yea, put those Twinkies down.
The best ways to lose weight are running and bicycling. If you run and/or bike for an hour a day for five days a week, you'll lose about 5 pounds a month.
He'll come back asking for suggestions on getting his bowels moving again. We can then refer him to TJ.
My advice? Less eating. More drinking. Not hard to lose weight when you're so sloshed, you forget you're hungry.
If you want unhealthy advice, take up smoking. I've probably lost 15 lbs smoking regularly. Don't do it man.
I tried running and I can barely make to the end of the block. I was totally winded after that, and that's only 1/4 mile!!! Not to mention, my joints hurt like crazy! How long of "being winded" will it take before I can run a decent distance or for a decent duration of time?
I do not drink, and I think the "eating 5 small meals a day "got me to where I am. " Small" is subjective
Look, I'm no professional trainer, but I do have a chiseled body and am in fabulous physical condition. I have very low body fat, excellent stamina, and bulging muscles. Begin each day by running as far as you can. For some that is less than one mile, for others it is much farther. Walk for a bit if you get winded, then resume running. You can build up endurance pretty quickly when you run on a regular basis. Other than a handful of fringe sports, running burns more calories per minute than any other regular form of activity -- with the exception of vigorous weight lifting. Supplement your runs with free weight training. Don't bother with the machines at all -- they are for the weak and poorly inspired. Start with just a few movements -- bench press, squats, dead lift, bent over rows, upright rows and military press. These compound movements will recruit and stimulate virtually all of your body's muscles. Once you have built up a solid base of muscle, you will burn much more fat/calories during the day. It's a virtuous cycle. I'm not promising you will look at beautiful as myself, but hey, if you reach for the stars, you won't end up with a handful of dirt. CONQUISTADOR
I'm surprised you made it a quarter of a mile! Although, I have to say that weighing in the 170's really isn't all that much. You're probably a little overweight, but nothing to worry about.
Damn TJ, You know there's no women on this board to impress, right? It's just a bunch of... oh nevermind.
It depends on how tall he is. For example 5'4" - 173 in significantly overweight while 5'8" - 173 is just slightly overweight.
