Temps In The 20s On The Way Snow In Forecast For Christmas POSTED: 9:02 am CST December 23, 2004 HOUSTON -- Houstonians woke up to freezing temperatures Thursday and the bitter blast of winter is going to stick around for Christmas, possibly bringing snow, Local 2 reported. Click here for a list of counties under weather warnings and watches. Temperatures were in the upper 20s and lower 30s Thursday morning, but colder weather is on the way, according to Local 2 meteorologist Wes Hohenstein. "One thing I'm concerned about is the wind chill throughout the day (Thursday) only in the 30s. And then as we head into (Thursday night), that's when the moisture will start to approach us," he said. Temperatures in the lower 40s Thursday will feel like the 20s and 30s with the wind chill. Friday morning is the best chance for snow in the Houston area, with a 40 percent possibility for the southeast side. "Yes, it does look like we will seem some, mainly east of (Highway) 59, and south of I-10. The moisture is coming at us from the south. It will be cold enough. That's for sure," Hohenstein said. "The issue is, 'Will the moisture make it far enough north with a strong northerly wind, a dry wind?' So it's got to fight that." Hohenstein said snow accumulation is not expected. Friday night and Saturday morning will have temperatures in the teens and 20s. "It's going to be a very interesting next 48 hours, also very dangerous, not only with driving conditions (Friday) morning, but also with the bitter cold," Hohenstein said. The forecast is as follows. Thursday: High 42, Low 31 Friday (Christmas Eve): High 34, Low 26 Saturday (Christmas): High 44, Low 21 Sunday: High 58, Low 27 Monday: High 66, Low 46 Tuesday: High 68, Low 50 CenterPoint Energy will have crews on standby to make sure there's enough natural gas for customers trying to keep warm. "When they wake up in the morning, turn up the heater a little bit, turn on the hot water for their hot shower, start cooking the holiday meal, we have to make sure there's enough pressure to make sure the gas flows through the line," said Alicia Dixon, with CenterPoint Energy. City and county officials are also preparing for the freezing temperatures. Crews are gathering chat-rock in case it's needed to prevent icing on streets and highways.http://www.click2houston.com/weather/4020513/detail.html
Yup, northwest suburb. Colder than a witches' tit, although, I'm not really sure how cold that is. BTW, I'm absolutely in love with this city, despite them gypping me on the snow.
Not for me! It was probably around 15 on Tuesday when I took the train downtown from my parent's suburb, then hopped on the El to the North Side to see an old friend from high school. The 10-minute walk to his apartment was brisk, but I loved every second of it. I'm just wired that way, I guess. It's amazing how easy it is to get around without a car.
It really needs to get into and stay in the teens and 20's for an extended period of time (8+ hours) for there to be a serious concern. One day with a high around 36 and a low in the mid-20's will not do any damage to your pipes. By Saturday afternoon, it will be 50. If it was going to get to around 15, I'd wrap them, but this isn't enough to justify it. But, I know how you feel. When I first moved into this house, I went nuts at the first sign of really cold weather.
You got us beat for now. It's 12 degrees in Cleveland. We can't leave the house though because the damn plows haven't come around yet and it's almost 9 inches of snow out there.
We've been having some light snow off and on here in Deer Park (southeast side.) We first started getting them at around 9:30 for about half an hour, then I was just out a few minutes ago and saw some more.
We've been getting just some light flakes so i'm here to eat some snow.... errrr crow. I said there was no way but it's happening.
