As of this morning... Ranks #13 in the NBA in Three-Point Field-Goal Percentage(0.439) Ranks #1 in the NBA in Three-Point Field Goals Made(76.0) Ranks #2 in the NBA in Three-Point Field Goal Attempts(173.0) Ranks #7 in the NBA in Assists Per Turnover(3.52) Ranks #1 in the NBA in Three-Point Field Goals Per 48 Minutes(4.73) He wouldn't have helped our offense at all. I sure am glad we got Charlie Ward instead!!!! Thanks Mr. Dawson!
Actually, Damon Jones turned us down. He wanted to go to the Heat. So, that had nothing to do with the Rockets.
Where was that reported? He was looking at Houston and Miami among others and we decided go go with the Sura/Ward combo and Jones then signed with the Heat for 2.5m/yr.
Please stop defending CD and JVG! The evidence is there every night. They just ucked up the team, plain and simple. And I am supposed to listen to JVG when he talks his nonsense about players wanting to start is the problem. I do not see it that way. I see a bunch of short people at PF around Yao as the problem. I see Yao regressing. I see the departures. Etc etc.
Because it's guaranteed he would have put up those #'s over here. Just like Shandon panned out the way it seemed like he would. Just like Taylor's and Cato's #'s from elsewhere translated. Right.. good assumption.
Damon would be exactly what this team needed this year. What the hell happened? We have been screwed so many years because we couldn't freaking land a point guard. We had to settle for Matt Baloney. I'm tired of of CD I really am.
His numbers were just about as good last year on an entirely different team in a completely different system. I'm sure he wouldn't have done as well here though. You're right. Charlie Ward was a no brainer.
Exactly. After all, ths guy is only from Houston. Why should we have an advantage, especially if the money is equal or more. CD's philosphy is why sign anyone under 30 when we can form the oldest team in the league - veterans, yeah, that's the ticket.
you all would be great in the witch trials - ...so you woke up this morning and just decided to start spewing hate and claiming that that Jones wanted to come to Houston so you could blame CD for not signing him. Well.... where is the proof that he wanted to sign here ? REMEMBER, Damon Jones had a whole lot more to say about where he signed than Carroll Dawson, Jeff Van Gundy or anyone else - so... Unless you can point to an article that says "Damon Jones WANTED TO SIGN with the Rockets, but they didn't want to pay him $2.5M per year... " then you should open yourself a can of SHUT THE F*&K UP ! http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=nba&id=1853482 PS I am not a fan of Ward or Lue, I just accept the reality that some players who were cut by a team in the past might not want to sign with them later on
Exactly. I don't believe we made him any offer at all. That's the point. But don't get me wrong, I see this as a GOOD thing, because if we had made him a reasonable offer we might not have been able to pick up Charlie Ward.
I don't remember that. I do remember Jones saying he wanted to come back to Houston. CD/JVG went with the Sura/Ward combo instead and well...we know the story. Damon Jones signed a crap deal with the Heat just because, there was no reason not to sign Jones over Ward.
That article is pointless, it doesn't say anything useful. And who cares if we cut him? He is from Houston and would get the chance to play point with TMac and Yao. What would you pick? Start at PG with Yao/TMac in your hometown or backup Dwayne Wade in Miami? If CD/JVG would have given Jones a decent offer, he probably would have taken it. Good shooter, good passer, low TOs. It's a damn shame that JVG wanted to go with Ward instead of Mike James or Damon Jones. Not only do our PGs suck, we are stuck with them for another 2 years.
Aug. 6 Miami signs Damon Jones Aug. 9 Houston signs Bob Sura and Charlie Ward The Rockets really want him, but he turn it down, he thought The Heat has more chance to win the title, and he was right.
dude - you are just making this up as you go along - you have no clue whether he really wanted to play here or not...
When I watched phoenix this year and the Heat I see How big time Jones and Richardson are helping Shaq and Amare getting thru and around double teams. There was a series of games where Q Richarson was hitting 5 consecutive freakin 3's. Just freakin unbelievable. Typical example I saw: Amare was near the 3 point arc on one side of the court and getting a phantom double and him swinging it to Quentin Richardson where the guy would just throw a 3 pointer dagger even with someone with a hand in his face. The game I saw the other night Shaq did the same thing much higher up in the post (as opposed to being in the low post) getting doubled and throwing it to Jones and him throwing daggers on the arc. Juxtaposed this with Ming. He get's Doubles (DEEP IN THE LOW POST) with hands surrounding and swarming him and he kicks it out to either (Lue, Ward or JJ) with Lue, Ward or JJ having the freakin WIDE OPEN Shot (no defender a mile away from them let alone anybody with a hand in their face) and what do they Do? They clank the 3 pt shot off the freakin rim. Pathetic. It's not like Yao is getting doubled near the arc and swinging it to these guys where the defenders have time to catch up and run to get a hand in the face of our 3 point guys but his doubles are usually all Low post leaving a wide open shot at the 3. There are no other kind of wide open shots these guys can get other than shooting 3's in practice. The only guy that can hit the shot with consistency is Boki, but he's on the bench. I just can't figure out how the hell other teams can get solid 3 point dagger Specialists while our guys struggle with umolested special delivery 3point set ups.
Live or die on the 3s Sonics and Suns are living in 3s Rox is dying in 3s All the criticism on yao are the jokes, guys just can't knock down wide open 3s.
