http://sports.sina.com.cn/s/2004-12-20/0109447008s.shtml Read this in sina.com. I'm not going to translate the full article, but would just pick out the essence:- Yao Ming felt it was not the Bobcats that had beaten them. It is the Rockets that had beaten themselves. He said: "If you don't keep on improving, you regress. We have taken steps in the last few games to improve and learn to control the game, and close them out. Tonight we just did not know why; we just regressed; we just could not hold our balls, and saw the balls striped from us time and again." Yao Ming was frustrated that he made 6 turnovers and fouled out. This is the 3rd games in this season that he fouled out, and the second game that he had 6 turnovers. And in that 4 games (he also made 6 turnovers and was fouled out in the game with LA Clippers), Rockets lost 2 of them. The reporters tried to comfort him by cracking a joke about the New York Yankees is trying to acquire the 2.08M Randy Johnson this summer, and maybe Boston Red Sox will acquire Yao Ming. Yao Ming said: "Yeah, that will be great. As a pitcher, you just throw the ball and have no physical body contact, and you won't foul out." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRanslated by pryuen at the Yao forum. What do u guys think? Yao Ming said: "I don't want to blame anyone. But I must say I don't know why I was called foul 3 times when I was fighting for the loose ball tonight. Officiating in general at home court is acceptable. But once we play away, I always felt that I just can't get fair treatment from the referees." He was making the above comment to a group of Chinese reporters. Coline Pine was with him, but he specifically asked Coline not to interprete for him, as he knew about NBA regulation.
I say swallow the fines and complain in English. Maybe even bring out the race card just to get as much attention as possible. With enough people paying attention, maybe the refs will have to be more careful. Don't tell me Yao can't afford the fine. lol.
Deal it Yao! Reach deep down from the bottom of that stacked race card, just like good ole Johnnie Cockran did fot the Juice.
Did you see what the refs did to JVG's teacher, Pat Riley? They ran that Pat Riley into retirement. Heat coach to meet with league over allegations of officiating bias BY ISRAEL GUTIERREZ igutierrez@herald.com BOSTON - Five days after publicly criticizing NBA officiating, Heat coach Pat Riley was fined $50,000 by the league Wednesday -- the largest fine the coach has received and his second as the Heat's coach. But the penalty hardly brings closure to a matter Riley will continue to pursue. ''Like all employees of this industry, we understand what the rules are,'' Riley said. ``If you exercise freedom of speech and they don't like it, then they come down hard on you. That's exactly what they did, but we have no recourse.'' Riley still intends to meet with the league this weekend when the Heat is at New York for a game Sunday against the Knicks. Stu Jackson, the NBA's senior vice president of basketball operations, also said his office will continue to look into Riley's confrontation with referee Steve Javie last year, but added that it was ''too early to speculate'' what kind of resolution he would seek. Riley said Friday, 'I sensed something changing last year when Steve Javie in Cleveland [on Nov. 24 in a 100-96 Heat loss], to his obvious absolute delight, as we were getting beat and going through a real tough time, came to my face after we were having a discussion and said, `It's giving us absolute delight to watch you and your team die.' '' Riley spoke with Jackson on Wednesday before the fine was handed down, and he anticipates a productive meeting this weekend. ''I talked to him today, and he and I will sit and we'll have a real good session because he's a former coach,'' Riley said. Riley's latest twist on why his team is not getting its share of foul calls (Heat opponents had shot 223 more free throws than Miami entering Wednesday's game against the Celtics) is that his teams have a reputation for playing a physical brand of defense. ''Ever since I've been with the Knicks, there was this perception that I was a coach who taught bully tactics and went too far with our defense and was very physical and I look for all those kinds of players,'' Riley said. Riley has also said that his team is not getting respect from officials because it is perceived as a bad team, and that the officials have a ''hatred'' for him that affects the way they call his team's games. Riley reiterated, though, that he is only searching for consistency in the officiating across the league. And in that battle, Riley has at least one supporter. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who has been fined more than $1 million for criticizing the league's officiating, said Riley's public criticism can only help. ''Any time someone questions the league, I think it's good for the league,'' Cuban said via e-mail. ``Ninety-nine percent of the time, it's a question that our fans and customers have thought of, and it's a great opportunity for the league to address it and put it to bed. So hopefully the league will see what Pat has done as an opportunity and not a problem.'' Cuban said he believes Riley's frustrations stem from the league's unwillingness to share information about its officiating. For example, when teams receive a play-by-play recap of a game, the league does not include which official made what call. Also, the league does not share the findings of referees' postgame video reviews with teams after the season. ''I don't think [Riley] is claiming a conspiracy,'' Cuban said. ``I think the root of his argument is that he thinks refs, like coaches and players, are human and have their likes and dislikes. But because he can't get information, he doesn't know if he is right or wrong, and that frustrates him. He can only act on his perception of his own experiences because there isn't enough information.''
Yao gets the calls at home. Yaos get no calls on the road. Answer is simple. Decrease aggression on the road. Take for example the Jazz game when Yao got 2 offensive fouls right at the beginning of the game for two aggressive moves to the basket. Those fouls would not have been called in the Toyota Center. Yao of all people should recognize this. Shoot jumpshots like Brad Miller on the road. Don't let the opponent have a chance to hack him to and get their hands on the ball.
Fighting referees is a losing proposition on the road. I've seen many games that the Rockets played in Utah that would make me throw up as to how biased the refs would be. I think that a smart team has to adjust in order to keep the referees out of the equation. I don't agree with folks saying that players should just force the refs to make the call. Refs will do what they want to do. Refs can screw you up bad if you don't recognize and adjust.
lol, probably not. In this case, he'll just have to try other ways to attact attention. Like complaining about the super strong mutant flies that keeps hitting his arms whenever he goes for a shot, or the loose light bulbs from the arena roof hitting his head whenever he goes for a rebound....whatever. As long as he gets lots of attention.
Can't y'all see? This is all David Stern's mastermind plan. His whole idea is to force Yao to become a role player on this team, so he would be traded to other bigger markets, like NY and LA. And this BBS has been infiltrated by all these Yao bashers to carry out his evil deeds. Beware!
