Ya, that's actually a pretty bold statement by Les. He "was" is a big statement. But I'm sure Les was pretty embarrassed when the TC booed while David Stern was at the game. Anyone that watches our games should know something is wrong, whether its the system, the players, or combo of both, something isn't right out there. And I think it is something time can't fix.
Man I really hate agreeing with DD. Seriously, JVG may be out of here next season if things don't turn around.
Sounds like Les is saying I might have made a mistake??? Anyhow low attendance will be a huge motivator for Les ALexander, he wants another championship. Great owner.
the gundy has frustrated me because he seemed unable to try anything other than what has worked for him in the past. i was ready to give up on him, but he seems to be trying different things lately (more open style, being slightly positive) and thats enough for me to continue supporting him....i love this team too much and he is a part of it.
JT: H-town: Is JVG in trouble down here? I mean these are the players HE wanted! I go to every home game and sit across from Owner Les Alexander and he doesn't look happy even in wins. SportsNation Marc Stein: (2:33 PM ET ) Trouble is too strong. He's two months into his second season there -- no way JVG is in trouble. The Rockets, like the Mavs, knew this would be a tougher season that maybe fans or media types expected. But they're not going to come out and say so before the season starts. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=6743 See. There's nothing to fear, JVG is safe.
Rocket fans can only effect change through their pocket book. I go to a lot of games, but only because the tickets have already been bought, and I rarely buy and merchandise, food, etc. - what's the impetus too. As unexciting as they are when no one is there, if the Rockets continue play boring, bad basketball, it will actually be better for the city to start to forget. Trust me, Les does NOT want that.
Why would JVG walk away from a several million dollar contract? Why would LesA eat a several million dollar contract to fire him?
JVG has before but I doubt he would again. Les would do it if he's losing more in revenue by keeping JVG. I think he'll give him until the end of the season before doing the math.
Simple, Les will find he is lossing more $$ keeping JVG aroud than giving him the boot. & i do not see JVG quitting, not just 4 the money but it will pretty much garantee he isnt gona get another coaching job. If he does quit he'll have to wait tell the end of the season.
JVG over $4.5 million / 41 home games = $109,000 per game I'm just counting the home games because the home games have stuff like concessions and parking. I think attendance would have to drop dramatically for JVG to get fired. The Hawks game might be a start though. I think it might have a low in attendance for the season. When the season ends, there will be the issue of season ticket renewals. That's a big factor. I cannot fathom any casual fan wanting to buy season tickets to the Rockets. Sporting entertainment dollars will be funneled over to the Texans and Astros.
To add to what Charvo said; my fathers company (who have held season tickets for twenty years) was strongly considering not renewing their season tickets before the T-Mac trade. T-Mac bought Les another season of their business, but already I hear them discussing not renewing them next year and putting the money into a deer lease instead. They use the tickets to entertain clients and, quite frankly, nobody is entertained these days.
I'm curious as to why CD gets a free past from most of the board, but JVG and Rudy even got crucified by many board members??? I am not trying to take up for Van Gundy, but he isn't the only problem with this organization. If we don't turn things around I am for firing them BOTH and rebuilding the front office........starting with a new GM who can hire his own coach.
