Don't disagree with you too much except to point out that not all those being saved (that would have died in the past) are quadruple amputees. Many are surviving wounds that they would not have in the past because of the speed with which they're getting attention, ie a gunshot wound they would have bled out from without surgery. Others might lose a hand or a leg but can certainly go on and lead productive lives - much better than being dead IMO.
