Actually it might very well be the thread starter's idea at the back of his mind. And that's OK and very sensible IMHO. Yao's market value is well over his performance and salary. We are loaded with bad contracts. So it's too sensible to trade Yao and bad contracts for some proven players. I think Kings can be one of our potential trading partners. Peja+Miller for Yao+fillers is good. Sura+TMac+Pega+Whoever+Miller. It's even better if they can include Bobby jackson as he has asked Kings not to pick up his option.

Thank you... I never said anything like it, but I did ask patlabor1 what the heck he was talking about when he suggested the following in the GARM thread.

Ding, ding, ding, you're right. This whole thread was a trick question to weed out the true master killer A-1 Rox men. You passed the test. ;)

I'm a strong advocate of the following:
    1. Buy out Taylor this summer. He will have two years and $19 million remaining. Give him $12 to walk away. He's probably good for someone's MLE, so $12 should be fair.

    2. Push a trade for Spoon next year, since he'll be in his final year, making a little over $6. The best case scenario would be parlaying his contract into a S&T for a PF FA looking to make just over the MLE. Stromlie Swift comes to mind. The catch is, there's not much sense in S&T a guy just to get an expiring contract back. Maybe involve a third team. Maybe the Bucks (Joe Smith) and help them cut costs for a Redd resigning?

We have to suck it up and live with Howard's contract. Too long to buy out or trade. He can still be okay as a bench guy. At least, I keep telling myself that. I'm still stunned at how awful he has been.

Sorry, JJ is at least on par with Wally (considering Wally's terrible passing ability...he is only thinking shot once he has the ball at any time). And with Butler, considering Butler's inconsistencies.

And we're not contenders this year. We weren't supposed to be. Neither were the Suns--granted--but still. Can't compared to Spurs/Kings/Pistons cause they were supposed to be better teams coming in.

Hopefully they dont bank the whole season on the All Star Game.
Something has to be done, wether its the coach, a trade, or buyouts. The sooner the better.

Not that we would trade Yao, but even if it entered Les's mind, isn't there something in all those negotiations we went through to get him, something stating he can't be traded?

I could be wrong on that.

Anyway, let's face it, this team is gonna suck for awhile. We are solid at two spots: shooting guard and center. We suck at power forward, small forward, point guard, and, especially, THE COACH

We traded Kenny for Posey, then let even Posey walk, but paid Posey's money to Ward and Sura. Hmn. We let EG walk and although the jury is out he is now shooting 3 pointers as a power forward and doing pretty well; and a 3-pt shooting PF would be a big help to our team.

I just don't trust CD to put together this team. Granted, he's pulled off some great trades; but it's the aftermath, the wreckage, that he can't quite deal with very well.

In truth, while Yao keeps playing every summer for China; while JVG continues to try to remake Yao into Patrick Ewing rather than Arvydas Sabonis; while JVG keeps trying to fashion the New York Knicks South; the Rockets are just gonna plain suck.

Some marriages just don't work and you have to get out of it. I'll be happy if CD pulls out something amazing with the detritus we have after McGrady and Yao.

I'd donate $100 to the tipjar if it would promise me that the members here would finally let go of the Griffin move.

For god's sakes, even the Nets had to cut him and look at their f'ing roster!

You don't keep guys that bottom out like he did. You can't pay them millions on the hope that they'll turn it around. If he comes back, he'll be one of very precious few players that have done so.

Look at Chris Herren. Look at Vin Baker. Look at Kemp. When players f their career and their lives, you have to cut them loose.

If Baker somehow turns it on and becomes an All-Star again, does that mean Boston should have kept him?

The Rockets did what they had to do. They traded for him because they saw him doing what's he's doing today. They cut him because of his drug/alcohol/violence problems.

First of all, for those who are still optimistic about this season, my good opponents/bad opponents/home games/road games projection shows that we will finish 37-45. How a TMac-Yao team can finish 10 wins less than a Francis-Yao team is beyond me.

Second of all, for those who want to trade Yao, teams only trade a young star like that if they can get some sure fire top tier player in return. Sure, we can see more clearly Yao's limitations. But losing faith in a rare talent like that is premature. This guy has gone through 3 different head coaches (including Mr. Mean) and two completely different teams (this year's team is totally different from last year's). He needs some stability.

Rudy didn't get the chance of really getting Yao to his potential. And JVG hasn't shown any ability of using talents so far (look how two other great talents, Francis and TMac, perform under him). I say give Yao a chance to blosom under better circumstances.
