http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/2940826 Having had a few days to rest and recuperate since resigning as head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, Hubie Brown is ready to go back to work — this time as Al Michaels' broadcast partner on ABC's NBA schedule beginning Christmas Day. Just to ensure he arrives in midseason form, we gave Brown a kickstart earlier this week by asking him about the Rockets' current plight. And, yes, English teachers, I know it's one long run-on sentence. But it's the way he talks. "When you bring in a star player of ( Tracy) McGrady's status that played an up-tempo game where he was the major force ... and then all of a sudden you put him on a team where you have a center ( Yao Ming) who is the second-best center in the NBA and all of a sudden the offense is being run inside out and the amount of touches is not there, what has to happen is that the remaining people who are there, can they get the necessary chemistry? "I believe in Jeff Van Gundy and his staff. You have two of the top 10 players in the league on your team, and what will happen is the rest of the people, that is where chemistry has to come from. They have to be able to produce. "In the second half of the season, they are really gonna be a handful, because of those two people (Yao and McGrady) who are a force. They're a little out of whack, but don't discount that. What you have to remember now is of all these teams, how many plus-.500 teams have they played, how many times have they played on the road, how many sub-.500 teams have they played, have they played teams with injuries to key guys." Whew. Time for a commercial break.
That's the only part that is getting hard to buy into. How many people are buying into JVG's system? I'm happy that we are winning but our offense is just horrible. We're 28th in the league in scoring only ahead of the Nets and the Hornets...
I respect what Hubie has to say.. he is pretty thoughtful in his response however, I dont think I have heard him say anything negative about any team. J
In other words, the team will all of a sudden get better "chemistry" if we can trade away the dead weight of Howard, Taylor etc and get BETTER players! It is amazing how having players that aren't stiffs all of a sudden gives the team better "chemistry"
Hubie Brown knows basketball. What he says is true. I'll say it again. Aside from the JVG system, the only thing this team needs is a defensive PF that has passing skills and doesn't turn the ball over. He doesn't even have to score much. Just get the rock and pass it. I wished that Hubie was our coach.
Why? Even after last night? Do you think Hubie could have coached T-Mac into scoring 13 pts in :35 seconds?? That was all JVG there, baby.
Anybody wanna do the work on this one? "What you have to remember now is of all these teams, how many plus-.500 teams have they played, how many times have they played on the road, how many sub-.500 teams have they played, have they played teams with injuries to key guys." -Hubie
First Team ALL NBA Shaq Duncan KG Kobe Nash Second Team ALL NBA Yao Dirk TMAC Lebron Francis So unless you think Yao wont make the second team ALL NBA, which is NOT determined by fans but coaches etc, then he is a top 10 player
Well, for starters: Home games: 10 Road Games: 10 Games against +500 teams (from last season): 15 Games against -500 teams (from last season): 5 Games against playoff teams (from last season): 13 Games against non-playoff teams (from last season): 7 Current Division Record: 4-1 Current Conference Record: 7-6 Vs. East: 2-5 Record: 9-11
Being on the All NBA team doesn't determine your overall ranking. Brown was referring to overall ranking. Overall ranking wise Yao is not a top 10 player. Perhaps a top 20-25 player, but not top 10. By your logic, this makes Franchise better than Ray Allen or Marbury, or Iverson. I'm not sure about that.
man, what does he know?? he don't know nothing about no foosball!!!! he should be listening to the experts on this board more!!! hubie brown is the DEVIL!!!!
There's definitely an argument for 10 other players ahead of Yao. But, most people use the term loosely and when they consider Yao as being a top 10 guy, they are also thinking about his potential to become much better.
