I don't know if anybody posted this already, but the ESPN basketball guys threw around their top 5 guys who came into the league since 2002. Interesting that no one included Yao into the mix. Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, Amare Stoudemire, and Carlos Boozer (he's solid, but I would take Yao over Boozer 10 out of 10 times) were names thrown out ahead of Yao. All these players have gotten better since their rookie season, and although Yao has improved, he hasn't taken his game to another leve like the other guys.

i would only consider trading yao for lebron or perhaps amare.

the rest are nice players. but i think Carmel is over-rated. dwayne is very nice but i wouldn't trade a big man for a point guard. boozer would be the otis thorpe with yao ming....but he's no superstar.

    there is the potential.

plus superstar by default. there are no centers. there are TONS of power forwards.

my order would be quite different:

    Lebron
    Wade
    Amare
    Yao
    Dwight Howard

with honourable mentions to: Melo, Boozer, Hinrich, Okafor, and Milicic :D

I would put yao ahead of carmelo and boozer in a second.

Yao has demanded double teams and had the opponents defensive game plans geared around him since about the middle of his rookie year.

carmelo is the biggest prima donna to enter the league since.....drawing a blank here, he might be the all time great. explain to me how he makes any teammates better? despite his physical skills and talents, he seems to excel at only scoring and his FG% isn't even that stellar.

boozer is better than expected, but not in yao's league by any means. try to tell me that if houston offered yao straight up for him that the jazz wouldn't fall all over themselves to make it happen.

amare has had an amazing year, and is incredibly talented. anyone else notice that his surge has coincided with the arrival of a talented, true point guard???

Basically, Yao bashing has become the popular thing to do. Of course, Stephen A Smith (the 'A' must be for annoying), legler, gren anthony, and basically everyone else on that subpar espn squad (they actually LOST credibility when laimbeer left) has dived onto the bandwagon head first. their comments are generalizations and it's clear that they don't watch the games.

Which make us so frustrated with Yao. If there are so many more weak centers, he should have reached his potential faster. Look at Amare, he's a power forward in the West and he has improved so much more than Yao.

And who will have won the most championships, looking back in 2015?

    1. Yao Ming
    2. Dwyane Wade
    3. Lebron James (maybe)

    That's it.

If Yao wins a championship, it will be more of T-Mac's doing than Yao's. Yao will and should be the Rockets second option, while Wade and Lebron will their teams first option.

You speak as if it is fact. If it is fact, who is going to carry Yao to championships?

ESPN love the players that provide highlights that's just they way operate.

Yao is not a flashy player but is a difference maker. (slumping right now)

LBJames would probably be the only guy I trade Yao for..

Melo is overrated, that Nuggets team is stacked 1 - 5 and they are playing like crap. Melo has the wrong attitude and the media seems to be lashing out at him lately (I see him as a RDavis type player lots of points off lots of shots not a difference maker)

Amare whats the difference from last season and this one? SNash/QRich man the Suns have done a great job at plugging their holes and when your surrounded with that kind of cast and your only focus is on scoring of course you have pumped up numbers. People who think Amare is that great how many of their games are you watching? He is really good but that team overall is great... SMarion/SNash are the stars of that team to me with Amare not far behind.

Boozer? man he doesnt belong in this class.. he started off hot but has cooled off..

DWade is a tough one for me.. he has the quickness and toughness he just doesnt have the size or the outside shooting.

those ESPN guys have never given Yao much of a chance to make it. (especially the ex-players) and since he has been playing like crap lately I can understand why they left him off that list.

Rockets wouldn't win the champ unless Yao develops into a dominant player.
    IMHO.

I think they rated Top 5 players that played to the expectation level before the season. Yao's play is definitely far below the expectation.

Carry Yao? You seem to be insinuating that it's gonna be Tmac. Tracy was barely able to "carry" his Orlando Magic team to 21 wins out of 82 last season. It's gonna take more than one person to win a championship, buddy. The rest of the supporting cast/role players are the ones who are going to have to carry their own load. Tmac and Yao can't win a championship on their own. Look at last year's stacked Lakers....Kobe, Shaq, Malone and Payton - four future Hall of Famers couldn't win it. It's gonna take a collective effort from the team as a whole to win a championship, like the Pistons did.

No, I'm insinuating that Yao will not "lead" a team to a championship.

I think Carmello has tremendous upside considering he would only be a college Junior had he stayed at Syracuse. He just needs to mature and try to stay out of freakin trouble!

    1. Lebron James - The King

    2. Amare Stoudamire - Why give so much credit to Nash for his individual success? The only thing people should give Nash a lot of credit for is the Suns wins, but Amare was killing people as soon as Marbury was traded last season.

    3. Dwayne Wade - The Heat's MVP.

    4. Yao Ming - If the Rockets see any more championships while he's here it will be because of him. Scary because his energy level will always be low after 82 games, maybe he needs to take a Shaq-like midseason vacations or maybe another lock out shortened season, definately needs to get away from the CNT!

    5. Carmelo Anthony - To me he hasn't fallen one bit, there were some things wrong with his team early this season but they had little to do with Anthony. It's sad to see success buried in negativity with some sports figures out there, he still led a team that won a NCAA championship right? Still led the Nuggets to the playoffs last season?

I like a healthy T.J. Ford a lot too, when will he join those guys?
