Was it me or did I see opportunities for fast breaks? Was it me or did I see opportunities for fast breaks? JVG's offense is really getting to me. I can't stand him holding up Barrett, McGrady, and the others to run the offense up and down the court. His hold'em-up-run-the-clock-down offense sucks. It's ridiculous. It's boring basketball and needs to be trashed.
Iam glad they won tonight but this was a very very boring game. tempo picked up late in the 4th but the rest of the game was extremely boring to watch.
The problem isn't that we aren't getting fastbreak opportunities, the problem is that when we do, we don't know how to execute them. Very, very similar to last year.
Anybody know why van gundy doesn't practice fast breaking at all in the drills? I remember Francis said that they don't practice the fast break.
I thought the same thing last year, but I have realized that he is just waiving them to get the ball up quick and get into thier half-court set so they have more shot clock to work with.
B -O -R - I - N - G I am a long time Rox fan, a longer time NBA fan. I can never remember being so bored by a team's play as I am by this edition of Rocketball. If the cutters aren't slicing and dicing, receiving pinpoint passes then tell me, where is the spacing? Double teams mean nothing when a defensive guy can reach the next shooter with a short stride. Sure, the guys are starting to hit the floor and even win some games (after Hawks/Knicks any win anywhere anytime) but this is not worth the price of admission, not worth listening to Worrell beat down JVG and Yao (is there an agenda here?). Sorry, I want to be entertained. I want there to be hope. Since I feel neither after six weeks add my name to the 'we need change at the top' list. President. Coach. General Manager. Personnel and scouting directors. It's time to pull an 'Isiah' but with a more responsible, insightful, competent helmsman. Whoever he may be.
Yeah, fire JVG!!! He has no clue on how to coach offense. The game is so boring and close to be unwatchable. Although a win is a win, the game last night was so ugly that it made me feel asleep. Les, please do someting, fire JVG and Ewing!!!
I've fallen asleep so much since JVG got here. Moreso this season than last because at least Francis made some crazy plays. Then again he made some bonehad ones too but man the lack of fastbreaks is such a sedative.
This is the first time in my 21 years of basketball watching (on all levels) that I watched such boring basketball. I find myself switching to other shows during games, first time I've ever done this. I find myself falling asleep during games, definitely the first time I've evern done this. Most important, I find myself not as excited to watch my #1 team. JVG has been known for the ugly "ugly-win/ugly-loss" games, but it doesn't have to be like this. No matter how much we win, the Rockets will NEVER be as popular as the Mavs, Lakers, Wolves, type teams. Fire JVG!!
I mean, I can't remember a time in this board or a time in Houston where wins are accompanied with negative thoughts and even the Chron put out an article about the negatives.
Last year's losses were more entertaining than this year's wins. I'm glad I have NBA League Pass so I can watch OTHER games!
Loving this team is hard, because it is so uninspiring. We, as a town, as sportsfans, as Rock fans, are poised to make some noise to show our love. But, even I am just somnastically unable to mount any enthusiasm for the end product. How can we so bored with the top talent T-Mc and the great promise of Yao Ming? How can we not know the answer to that, and the answer INCLUDES but is not limited to the head coach!
I know that nwo did not start this thread, but his and xiki's threads are talking about the exact same thing ... and xiki's "B-O-R-I-N-G" title makes more sense. This is not to anyone in particular, but to everyone : Too many threads are being created after games... many of which just are random thoughts that apply to other threads. Please try to make an effort to find the thread where your post applies. If it's new and unique, by all means start a new topic. Thanks, Clutch
Sorry, Clutch, but it wasn't a one-game rant just a reaction to knowing how bad this regime appears to be running down my preferred entertainment. Yes, I guess this is a recurrent theme with other Threads, so, I'll work on my spacing.
You can't fast break if you can't rebound on the defensive end. Francis, Mobley, Sura, Tmac, JJ - these are guards that are all getting 6-7 rebounds a night as Rockets. The Power Forwards should be cleaning the glass so they can make the outlet pass to the guard who start the break Sura had to pull it up several times last night... not because JVG told him to but because the rest of his teammates were still coming up the floor since it took 4 of them to secure the rebound
Don't blame Jeff Van Gundy. Carrol Dawson couldnt provide us with a decent point guard who can run a fastbreak. Hopefully Andre Barrett will develop into that, but until then Bobby Sura is not going to cut it ( though I like him as a 2 guard sixth man)
