Anyone pick this new game up, or planning to pick it up? I ordered mine today and should have it by Friday. It looks amazing and I have heard a lot of good things about it.

I'm not much into games anymore, but what is it? RTS? RPG? I'm guessing it's a LOTR title? Is it online play only?

Well EB says it is a RPG but it is actually an RTS. It will be using the C&C Generals engine. It has single player, skirmish, and multiplayer online play. The computer AI will be available for skirmish and also online. The single player is said to be non-linear. From the previews, the missions will be based on the famous battles from the LOTR series.

I'm not sure. I might wait for a while after it's released. I need to see what kind of reviews it gets, and i need to get some feedback from ppl who actually play it.

I jus picked this game up today but haven't had a chance to play that much. The graphics are amazing though. And EB is wrong...it is an RTS not an RPG. When I get further into it I'll let you know

The reason why lots of reviews have it as a RPG rather than a RTS is because in 'Story Mode', you control the Fellowship, upgrading powers/levels etc.. So I guess you could call it an RTS with some RPG elements. But it is still an RTS, no doubt.

Agreed. I guess I was simply looking at the concept as opposed to certain parts.

I just started playing this game and it kicks ... stuff. There's 2 different modes of play (campain or skirmish) but since you can play campaign or skirmish as either good or bad that increases the replay value. It's a RTS so there's a lot of building armies and structures. The famous characters from the movies are referred to as heroes in this game and they each have special powers that can be unlocked (which would the the RPG aspect of this game).

I'm only on the third level of the campaign but I did play some multiplayer earlier and it's pretty fun.

    Any questions about the game?

Yeah, I bought and played it yesterday. Very good game, the campaigns are fun, and the Riders of Rohan kick ass. They just charge over freaking everything :D Gandalf's pretty cool as well.

The skirmishes alos hold up, especially if you're playing as the good guys, and the evil dudes just keep sending wave after wave of orcs from the beginning, while you're trying to build up your castle and troops.

    I'd give it an 8/10

I got the game last Friday and have finally put enough tim ein to give it a thourough review. I have really enjoyed the game. It is very fun to play through the campaign and fight the battles as they are playe dout in the movies. The graphics are good and the gameplay is a little different than a typical RTS. You are given a citadel that ha sa specific number of build plots on it. Once those are used up you have to look for others. There are smaller sites (1 and 3 buildings respectively) spread across the map. Collecting resources is part of the game but you only have 1 type to worry about and gathering is done automatically. That leaves room for you to manage units and fight off attacks. Speakign of attacks. I had played through the first 3-4 missions without a problem. I got through Moria and defended Rohan a couple of times. On the third defense of Rohan the enemy all of a sudden starts sending group after group of fighters at me. There were massive waves and it was tough to keep up. Thankfully the Rohan Riders are strong. i finally got enough units to take out on eof the Orc camps and slow down the rushes. If the rest of the missions are this challenging then I will really enjoy this.
I haven't played skirmish but once and haven't played any MP. The skirmish was fun and I will be playing this more once I finish the campaign.
If you are a fan of the genre and/or of the movies, this game is definitely a must get.

I bought this game and have played it quite a bit... im mostly a multiplayer gamer, and this game is really more oriented towards the single player campaigns. To preface my opinions. the first game i ever played was starcraft. I grew up on starcraft and BW and warcraft 3. My opinions: as far as multiplayer and skirmishes.

    Pro:
    Graphics
    the innovative interface
the battles are fun to watch... and the unit emotions are cool.
(like you can hear units shout 'retreat back to base' if they are retreating)

    Cons:
Lack of diverse units. I can see why EA claims it to be a rpg.... because there just arent that many units and they arent that different.
Ultimate powers. I'm sorry but this game is really just a race to see who gets there ultimate power first.... the Balrog destroys a castle base in a few seconds.... as does the Army of the dead. You cant really stop either of them from. You can kill the balrog, but he'll probably destory your base first.
AI - the AI is weak... when i bought the game and was still learning how the interface worked, and what each unit/building did, I could baet the medium AI. Now that I am more familiar with the game, the AI just isnt challenging at all.
Bugs?? I dont know if any of you guys notice this, but sometimes it seems like my units will just stand around during a battle. Like I'll attack move them and they fight some guys, but then the enemy will outflank me my guys that are getting attacked just stand there. And that goes the same with like the Nazguls and eagles. They get shot by arrows and just hover there, taking it.

In retrospect... I wouldnt have bought the game... I grew up on Starcraft and that game even now could still take on this game pure strategy and RTS wise. This game is a big eye candy. I bought the DVD version... all that space went to eye candy.
