I had to laugh when I saw the 'recovering from hip replacement surgery' below. Somehow that doesn't seem to mesh with the rock-n-roll image. LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The 1980s glam metal band Motley Crue made hard living and wild sexcapades a centerpiece of their music and their lives, selling millions of albums along the way. Now, after a five-year hiatus from performing together, the original big-haired, leather-clad Crue members are eager to slip back into the music -- if not the lifestyle -- depicted in hit rockers like "Girls, Girls, Girls" and "Smokin' in the Boys' Room." The band arrived Monday at the Hollywood Palladium in a hearse to announce their reunion. About 1,000 people cheered as the group opened a performance with "Dr. Feelgood" following a news conference. With support from cable music television network VH1, the band -- vocalist Vince Neil, drummer Tommy Lee, guitarist Mick Mars and bass player Nikki Sixx -- plan a world tour beginning in February in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The band will hit more than 60 cities in North America during two legs and play several festivals in Europe before wrapping up the tour in southeast Asia and Australia. The band will release a double-CD greatest hits compilation with three new songs entitled "Red, White & Crue" in February. "We're just ready to go out and rock," Neil said at the news conference. "We're still Motley. We still rock." The band, which originally formed in 1981, regrouped a few months ago after Sixx wrote some songs and asked Neil if he would sing them. "There were definitely issues to be worked out," Sixx said of bad blood between his band mates. "We got in and we were like, 'Wow. Where's the problem here? Did we make a mountain out of a mole hill?' " Sixx said in an interview before the reunion event. "We're a dysfunctional band, that is driven by drama and we are always on the fringe of something going wrong." Although Neil and Lee have dabbled in reality television, the band members have been known less in recent years for their music and more for their personal troubles. Lee has been in and out of probation for years stemming from charges in 1998 that he abused ex-wife actress Pamela Anderson, with whom he has two children. He also faced charges of child abuse and a firearms violation. In 1989, Sixx nearly died from a heroin overdose. Mars is recovering from hip replacement surgery to treat a degenerative illness. Sixx said Mars is ready to play, despite the surgery. "He's in rehearsal. He's standing up. He's playing his guitar. He's shredding. He's been through hell," Sixx said. "Here we stand together ready to wave the flag for rock 'n roll."
Mick Mars has some rare disease that makes his bones brittle and essentially gives him insane arthritis in every joint in his body. He's also 50-something by now, if I'm not mistaken. I'm pumped to see this tour. It won't be like the old days, but I was too young to see Motley Crue in their prime.
What rock-n-roll image? The only image I've ever seen Motley Crue front is a Drooling Assclown image.
i've never understood the attraction to the metal hairbands of the 80's. b*stard...wildcat screwed the camel. still don't know what that means.
Right here. Tex actually used to perform on the Sunset Strip back in the day, if I'm not mistaken ... now he posts here.
I remember seeing Nikki Sixx on a talk show and he mentioned that Mick Mars won't be able to tour much longer because of his disease, so they wanted to do one last tour before they have to hang em up because they won't tour without him. At least I think that's what he said, but they have replaced other members before. Anyways, that sucks for Mick, not a fan of the band but I feel bad for the guy. Isn't he married to Donna D'Errico? Man, a bad hip is the worst thing you could have with a wife like that.
Yes I did, but not in a heavy metal band. My hair was more REO Speedwagon than Crue anyway! That's what happens when ya gots the curlies..... Actually, I posted here while I was playing on the strip...in 1997.
I saw Vince Neil open up for Poison a year or two ago (couldn't resist, the tickets were 10 bucks). All I can say is that Vince's voice is still as good as it ever has been. If you're a Crue fan, I'd recommend checking him out.
Vince is annoying live, he seems to only sing like 3 out of every 5 words and skips the rest but yeah Crue seems old and used now, but in 1990 with Dr Feelgood, they were the sh*t
I thought Vince and Tommy hated eachother. I guess you do what you have to do when you run out of money.
Shout at the Devil defined hair metal in '83, there's a difference. I was 13 when this record came out. What a fun time in a kid's life. By the next year I was into punk (I realized it was even crazier than metal, Jello Biafra truly scared me). But there was a brief time, even though it seemed like forever, when bands like Def Leppard, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Ozzy, Ratt, Judas Priest, & Kiss ruled the world.
Shout at the Devil was easily Crue's best album, IMO. I vaguely remember Poison opening up for Ratt at the Summit ('86 I think). You left out several bands including Iron Maiden, Slayer, Whitesnake, Great White, etc...
i always liked it when these guys would get soulful and contemplative with a lovely ballad. "down to gorky park....."
Nikki Sixx is married to Donna. I'm pretty sure Mick is married to some lesser-tier early 90s model. Anyone who hasn't read "The Dirt" sucks, by the way. Best rock autobiography ever, even if you don't like the Crue's music.
