Just incase... Bobcats acquire Rush from Lakers Monday, December 6, 2004 (12-06) 12:52 PST CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Los Angeles Lakes guard Kareem Rush was acquired by the Charlotte Bobcats on Monday for two second-round draft picks. The Lakers received Charlotte's second-round picks for 2005 and 2008. "He has great size and athleticism, he can shoot the ball well with range and because of his length he can play more than one position," Bobcats coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. Toronto made Rush the 20th overall pick in the 2002 draft, then traded his rights to the Lakers. He averaged 4.6 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists in his first two seasons. He's averaging just 0.9 points and 1.2 rebounds in 6.5 minutes this season, but has been bothered by a right ankle injury and struggled to crack the lineup behind Kobe Bryant and Caron Butler. Rush played in all 22 playoff games with the Lakers last year. He scored a playoff career-high 18 points on 6-for-7 3-point shooting on May 31 against Minnesota in the Western Conference finals. Charlotte cleared a roster spot last week by waiving guard Eddie House.
People say that the Lakers gave Rush away, but second round picks for the Cats are very good picks -- early in the second round without the financial commitments required for a first round pick. Knowing Rudy T, he likely wanted to do the trade because he knew Rush deserved more minutes but couldn't get them in LA, so he traded him as a favor to Rush.
Rush is good, but in the NBA players like him are a dime a dozen. Good at shooting, bad at passing and ball control.
ironic, huh? http://www.latimes.com/sports/baske...,1,3665732.story?coll=la-headlines-sports-nba For the 2005 draft, the Lakers will receive either the second-round pick of the New York Knicks or the Houston Rockets, whichever is higher. Charlotte had acquired both picks in previous trades.
that sux... more reason to hope the Knicks fall apart, not that they are doing great but do we even have a 1st rd draft pick this year?
I believe so, yes. Good trade for Charlotte, questionable for the Lakers. They had to dump some of the 67-odd swingmen they have on the roster, but it may have been better to work a trade for a point guard instead. I'm sure they tried, though. Evan
