The turnovers were due to forwards and a center who think they can run the point turning the ball over INSTEAD of letting Reed run the point. You simply can't blame Reed for what KD, Sengun, and Amen did. Blame Ime if you don't want to blame them.
They are all to blame, Reed and Amen are out of position running point. We had no point guard last season. This year we have 3, so that should net us another 5-6 wins everything else being equal.
Thornton likely starting for RGV. Unless FVV's status for opening day is in question, then I could see him getting some early season bench minutes and us sucking hard this season because Stone is a stubborn contract lawyer who doesn't know ball.
Depending on FVV health... he and Smart are your primary pgs... with Reed playing sg and getting some time at pg.... Personally, barring injuries, I would have Thornton in RGV for most of the year... and if everyone is healthy bring him up and have Reed spend some time w RGV so he can be the starting pg there to further his development.... I know, I know... some folks are gonna lose their chit for suggesting the almighty Reed Sheppard should be spending time w RGV - but thats the right move if u want to develop him as a pg... which I think is his only path to a longterm starter - and not just a situational shooter... Maybe later in the year he could start at pg for the Rox against lesser opponents... Then hopefully next year, FVV is gone... Reed starts at pg w Smart and Thornton backing him up... its a process, folks... lol
AI Overview Yes, Marcus Smart is primarily a point guard, though he is highly versatile and frequently plays as a shooting guard as well. Throughout his NBA career, including his time winning the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2022 with the Celtics and his recent stints with the Lakers and Rockets, his strong playmaking and elite perimeter defense have defined his role as a combo guard. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] Marcus Smart is a combo guard who frequently plays both the point guard and shooting guard positions. Though he originally entered the league as a pure point guard, his versatile playstyle, defensive skills, and scoring ability often see him utilized as a shooting guard.
So you were counting him despite the fact he's worse after it than pretty much anyone on the roster last season.... okay, so who are the other 2?
well i wasnt the guy that u were initially replying to... but if u look 2 posts up, u will see how I see it playing out... although i would like to see FVV and CC packaged for Kyrie... but thats just me... lol
I’m guessing Thronton becomes our 12th man ahead of Davison. My guess: FVV / Smart / Thornton Amen / Sheppard / Davison Durant / Bogdan / Crawford or Vet Bari / Eason Sengun / Adams / Capela
All this talk about who's better, Reed Shepard or Bruce Thornton. However, nothing about Marcus Thornton. Marcus is the guy. LOL! USA Rocket Roundtable doesn't know the name of Thornton. I clicked on a Bruce Thornton article the other day, which was a nothing article. I looked to see who wrote it, and it said AI. Marcus Thornton Leads the Houston Rockets to a Dominant Victory Over the Philadelphia 76ers Marcus Thornton Leads the Houston Rockets to a Dominant Victory Over the Philadelphia 76ers - Yahoo Sports
Got confused with Rockets Legend™ Marcus Thornton. Fairs. Spoiler Your found AI slop says hold my slop:
I mean it's just Reed right now as the main backup, but there will be injuries with this guard rotation, so I guarantee you that if Thornton is decent he will get to play outside of garbage time.
Not sure why they couldn’t see minutes together if Thornton continues to impress. They’ve already said they want to see FVV play with Reed some so Reed can get some good looks, so why not Thornton and Reed? If Reed is going to succeed off the bench he needs to have a solid point guard that can get him the ball in the right spots at the right time (along with creating shots himself).
Reed had 1.5 TO PG last season. Do you know how many FVV had in 2024-25? 1.5. Just shut up. None of you know what you're talking about.
Correct. KD had by far the biggest impact to TO rate for us last season, by the lineup adjusted data. Impact metrics have consistently shown KD to have an undesirable TO rate impact when on the floor throughout his 30's. It was a major problem in 2024 in Phoenix too. Eye test shows it as well, for all of us who watched every game. The number of perfectly fine passes to KD that turned into pick six "turnovers" for Amen/Reed/Jabari/Sengun because KD cannot hold his position vs. younger defenders was astronomical. Those are KD turnovers, even if the stat sheet doesn't record them that way -- the impact metrics capture that.
My only problems with Reed, in which Thornton does well, was his picking up his dribble and defense! A NBA PG should not pickup their dribble! However, the fact that Thornton also can play defense, I must admit, I am impressed. I had my druthers, because he is a small PG but SO FAR, he has impressed in areas that Reed lacks. And if you're a Rocket fan, you should be happy too! However, if Reed lose minutes to Thornton or Copeland, I can definitely see a trade. Thornton is making $2M, Copeland $1M and Reed $10M?? Reed better show up and show up in a major way
Reed was a steal menace on defense last season and had a very admirable amount of blocks. Again, stfu.
