I was at the gym during the game. Can someone please summarize what happened? In particular three things: Did Spain dominate possession? Is there any reason to think England or Argentina will score a goal against them? Was fatigue a factor?
Wow, you can only pity Kane and Messi having to play that.... And Kapo Verde can say, we held Spain to a 0-0 Draw.....
Spain did not dominate possession (49% France vs. 51% Spain) as France was the first team to not box their whole team in the defensive side to try to stop Spain, trying to counter with their amazing strikers. Unfortunately for France, Spain was thus able to look like themselves for the first time this whole tournament, without having to try to score with 10 to 11 players playing defense. England and Argentina could definitely score against Spain, Norway already did. Even if they do score, I still expect Spain to win, but you never really know. Fatigue was not a factor at all, both teams had plenty of rest, France had an extra day (France 5 days, Spain 4). Their counterattacks looked more dangerous than any other team Spain had faced so far and they had a couple opportunities, Spain just rose up to the occasion. On the other end, Spain had more space to operate on offense than they had the entire tournament and it showed, they kept threatening and capitalized while France did not. Simply put, Spain has beat France in 2024, 2025, and 2026, as a superior team, all while Yamal has played below his standards this tournament. Honestly, I was shocked people were underestimating Spain as much they were. I think Spain is winning it all, but then again, Argentina gets some very interesting calls going their way, so who knows.
Argentina never look like they are the favored team. They are just opportunistic and have the GOAT who can make the crazy look ordinary.
