I have 2 forms of retirement. My 401k through 20 years of contributions. But I also will be 10 years vested in The NY State retirement program now that I work for Albany county in NY. I hope its not what you envision. But with home ownership equity and the 401k I should be ok. Especially with housing and cost of living being much less back home in Texas. I forgot there is also social security if it exists in 6 years.
We live in a world where the NYP and people like them think public education creates monsters. Not sarcasm.
NY's revenue is at it's all time high https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/QTAXTOTALQTAXCAT3NYNO This small snap shots of tax immigration don't really tell much for the grand picture of whether or not NY will be able to maintain a balanced budget going forward. Where is the data on NY states overall financial health, projected revenue vs projected expenses. Covid threw a wrench into a lot of states, and then trump screwing with federal grants is also disrupting things, but I've always been under the impression that NY state did pretty well? When I look at countries all across the world, there's a lot of places that run significantly higher spending and taxes (relative to gdp), but still have a MUCH healthier government budget. Places like Norway, Denmark, Sweden have net wealth surpluses as nations while the US is a net negative 30+ trillion or -100% of our GDP, despite those places spending and taxing up to and over 50% of their GDP annually compared to the US's "fiscally responsible" 35% range The thought that more gov spending must = debt or running out of money just isn't a necessary reality.
Mamdani is showing US Citizens how much that lying GROUP OF PEDOPHILES called Republicans are about Democratic socialism DD
Very little of that money goes to students. Most goes to unnecessary administrators who are otherwise unemployable. Meanwhile Mississippi’s students are running laps around those of NYC despite needing only a tiny fraction of the budget. Socialismo is a failed system. Shocking that liberals still haven’t learned this easy lesson. History matters, amigos. GOOD DAY
Why are NYC public schools socialist but the Mississippi public schools aren't? I'm all for applauding efficiency, and whats going on in the MS schools system in genuinely wonderful, but it's not a different system? Perhaps it is significantly more efficient, it's hard how exactly how substantial given the enormous difference in COL between NYC and the whole state of Mississippi.
NY is ranked the #1 public school system in the country. Not "failing," not close to it. First. If this is what a "failed socialist system" looks like, most states would sign up for that failure. Also worth asking: fire departments, roads, and the military are funded the same way as public schools, so if "socialist" is your label, it should apply evenly, not just to the systems you don't like. The "MS running laps around NYC" claim isn't just wrong, it's backwards, and it's built on a comparison you botched from the start: a whole state against a single city. Either you didn't notice or you hoped nobody else would. Fix that error and MS still loses. Compare state to state: NY is #1 nationally, MS climbed from 48th a decade ago to around 16th, real progress, but nowhere close to catching NY. Compare city to city: there's no public data showing any MS city or district beating NYC past 4th grade. In fact, MS 8th graders rank 41st in the nation in reading, not top tier by any measure. So run it however you want, state to state or city to city, MS is behind either way. Get the ranking right before lecturing anyone about history.
