Michael Jordan was less dramatic about retirement and he did that sh*t three times.

 

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and that is why it is fun to debate.

LeBron James' career is a lot like Kareem Abdul Jabbar's.

I was able to watch Michael Jordan and LeBron James -- very different players and careers, but Michael Jordan was clearly the better actual player IMO from having watched them play. LeBron has better longevity and accumulated numbers.

 

Lebron isn't coming to Houston unless his popularity suddenly starts to drop in Asia and we work out a deal to bring Yao to every game while Lebron is playing. EVERYTHING that guy does is calculated to his image.

Most teams should guess soon that he's just jerking them around and move on. Except LeBron, even post-40, still sells tickets.

 

I'd rather have watched Kobe bring a Championship to Houston and I HATED Kobe. That's how much I dislike LeBron and his legacy. I also care very little about Durant and his legacy. I'd almost rather he not have the Rockets as a part of his historical run cause it doesn't really mean anything. He's like the NBA w#ore at this point.

Houston isnt a city Lebron likes, it provides nothing for him

 

We'll see in a few years how much business those business men actually did.

 

What, are we now reduced to the level of Utah and Sacramento and Memphis? Those are the kinds of franchises that beg/plead/supplicate for any morsel of relevancy. We are not that.

Yet, anyway.

 

Just very different players. Nothing alike at all on and off the court.... which is actually cool. They are different people, and players. They accomplished enough individually on their own to carve their own place on the NBA Mt. Rushmore.

If anyone was too young to watch Jordan but was old enough to remember Kobe I would say that Kobe was about as close as you could get to what Michael was. Kobe wasn't quite as good, and had more help with a prime Shaq, but in terms of physique, style of play, skills, mentality, personality... he was much close to Mike.

Nobody in the modern NBA really plays like Jordan, or Kobe though so hard to judge in modern context unless you want to compare Kevin Durant... which I do NOT.

 

Lebron is a masterful technician with elite physical skills and processes the game like a true savant....but Jordan had all of that and was also the ULTIMATE competitor. That's the difference to me. Lebron used everything he had to beat you, Jordan did it to destroy your will.

Winning a game and destroying your competitor to the point where they felt awkward being around you are two entirely different things. I hated Kobe....but he understood that point.

 

Huh? LeBron has taken multiple teams with absolute scrubs to the finals ...more than you can say for Jordan who always had HOF players.

Regarding building super teams, don't hate the player, hate the game. It's not like Bron invented that.

LBJ had, who?, Kyrie and Kevin Love in Cleveland (and not to take anything away from them, Golden State had some injuries, I believe, but that happens).

 

The argument is always intriguing.

Essentially I think it comes down to what you value as the “GOAT”. Do you value longevity and numbers? Then sure you’d pick LeBron.

For MJ it’s just different. 6 for 6 is untouchable in my opinion. His competitive fire is unmatched all time. He willed himself and the team over the hump when he needed to. He brought fear into the opponent and was mystical.

MJ reached the highest peak the sport has ever seen.

From 1991-1998 the nba basically belonged to him. Excluding his baseball hiatus of course.

Also just look what the greats have to say about him… Magic Johnson, Gary Payton, Larry Bird, Reggie Miller, Charles Barkley, Isiah Thomas, Kobe…

All called him unstoppable.

There’s something to be said for that fear factor.

LeBron is great and the longevity is awesome, I just think MJ’s peak surpassed LeBron’s in every way.

At this point in his career, you get LeBron for the attention and profit. Nobody else in the NBA comes close as an individual. That's nice, but it comes at the cost of organizational peace and structure, and your basketball soul.

 

I wonder if rockets would absorb Max Strus contract, so they could sign Lebron.

I think max would fit in well here. Defense and Shooting.

This would be idea Morey Move, if you are really serious about advancing in the playoffs.

 

Jordan in his prime affected winning more than Lebron in his prime.

That said, the rules were very different.
