I don't think there's a single player in the NBA that Bruce Thornton could defend without getting cooked.

Yeah but we're not talking about merely lacking elite speed and quickness, it's hard to over sell just how slow he is.

For example, every single center in his draft class that went to the combine absolutely smoked his lane agility time.... he's Donavan Clingan slow.

Zach Edey would run circles around him.

I live here so I've gone every year since the Jalen-Alpi draft except last year. I'd say never go past the first weekend. The games are all garbage after that. Also try to have a few people with you so you can hold down seats in the big court. It's always a great time though. Would definitely recommend!

I've seen enough. Thornton has made Amen and KD expendable.

They didn't draft him to be a starter. They drafted him to get 9-12 minutes a game. He doesn't fit the modern combo guard build, but he has a nice floor. After Brunson cooked SA for the Championship, it just shows that the blueprint isn't foolproof. I like him as a Rocket and I look forward to see how he cooks with professionals around him.

The 34th pick Meleek Thomas seems the best player in the 2nd round draft.

Dude can average 28 pts in 3 games with excellent shooting.

    **** Stone.

They drafted him to play in RGV for a while and hope one day he can reach his potential as a bench player rather than the more likely outcome of him playing overseas

the one time the clown Stone doesn't follow mock drafts is the time it bites him LMAO. can't make that **** up. I really hope Thornton is going to ball out and he might but he's still 6'0 at the end of the day so the chances of that happening is already at a disavantage.

I still think you just have to not have the grass is greener mentality. The rest of the league probably likes what they see in Thornton and just take the dub. It's going to take 2-4 seasons to truly judge this draft. Three games in the Summer League means nothing.

you're 100% right. It's just strange to pass on a prospect that already has scoring tools that isn't replicated on this team. We have zero guards that can create their own shot off the dribble on this team. I mean, I'd say maybe Reed but that's a question mark. Meleek would already provide us with something we don't have.

Newton is overall a better player less his outside shooting than Thornton. Newton could make a difference in the league if his shooting ability was better.

Last year there were 226 players who averaged 13+mpg and played at least 50 games. If the Rockets think Thorton's expected value is 9-12mpg, they are saying they don't think he can crack top 7 in a rotation. They are thinking his ceiling is Aaron Holiday. That's not exactly someone a fan should ever be excited about.

Exactly. This is basically a player you will see in pre season and never again for the year.

Thornton is the same height / weight as Jerome Bettis / Ron Dayne.

    Expected does not equal ceiling.

Not sure what the Rockets expect or what the Rockets see his ceiling at, but I am pretty sure they see better than Aaron Holiday as his ceiling. I also think the Rockets think he has a good chance at playing the Aaron Holiday role this coming season, but also made last three years non-guaranteed in case things don't work out.

To me this looks like a high ceiling for a 2nd round pick play, with decent chance that he can be a deep bench guy. I thought Sharp had better odds of making a rotation at some point, but did not have the upside.
