Shewmake is 28, so we were getting peak Shewmake. His .695 OPS is nothing to sneeze at, given the current state of the Astros bats.

Pena is back from IL. This is why Shewmake got DFA. One can not blame the GM for this move. Who am I kidding? ;)

I wonder if Shewmake can play some OF?

Hayden Wesneski allowed a run on a solo homer, four other hits, and struck out seven in 4.2 innings for Sugar Land tonight

He's played 2968 innings of baseball in his career on the infield, but I'm sure his first time in the OF will work out well.

I've found that most guys that can play SS can play in the OF. Although I will admit this isn't the best time for him to learn how to play OF. But look at Cam as an example. The Stros are desperate for an avg OF.

The worst thing you can say in sports is "well, he can't be worse than that other guy"

That's how you end up with Biggio and/or Berkman in CF

Crap, I liked that kid. I know his last outing was rough, but he was versatile and could hit a little.

Dana Brown makes a major move.

Shoemake sent to Milwaukee for cash considerations.

This Dana Brown feller is something else.

I've been beating the drum all year for more pitching . Pen and starter . We might as well do tandem at this point .

I can't believe people think we need an OF bat more than a SP

The Astros in house options for OF far exceed their in house options for SP .

Please list the OPS for all of those OF options

or just those OFers with an OPS > 700.

Who are all these in-house options in the OF? For pitching, at least they have credible MLB players in Blanco and Wesneski as potential options in the coming weeks.

We don't even have good AAA depth in the pitching dept.

Our best hope is Ronel blanco coming back healthy . Or lance .

For hitting ... Cam improve OPS by 50 points . Wade/yordan in LF , Meyers and trammel in CF is OK . I've wanted to upgrade CF for a while now ; but realizing out OF could use an upgrade still pales in comparison to the dumpster fire that is out pitching staff and situation going forward .

Even when you play Matthews and smith in the corners and trammel or Meyers in center you get excellent defense .

For pitching as a whole we have maybe 4/5 above average guys .

    Lambert
    Brown
    Hader
    King
    Teng
    Okert

Imai and spencer have potential. But very inconsistent

King ,teng , and okert are good pitchers but what's their role on a playoff contender ? Lambert doesn't have a track record so you are hoping .

No wonder we are under .500

Even when your offense is good , sometimes you look inconsistent.

If we upgrade the OF and it keeps it's defensive ability then we should have a top 10 offense and top 10 defense when healthy ... But our pitching staff is bottom 5 right now .

Imo going for it this year means mostly standing pat , maybe a rental pitcher , and you hope you catch lightning in a bottle and have hunter hot , Imai hot , lambert hot . And corpses lance and javier or blanco find a way to give you something.
