Remember in 2020 when he spent the entire campaign claiming the most milquetoast of all Democrats, Joe Biden, was a radical firebrand socialist who was going to redistribute all your wealth? He kind of gave up on it a little bit after it fell so flat in that instance, but "radical socialist" used to be his default attack against all Democrats.

He was maybe a little more subtle and nuanced in how he presented it (radical socialist vs communist) before age really caught up with him, but it's instinctually one of his default claims for attacking opponents and God knows Trump loves to keep going back to the same well until it's bone dry.

Maybe reviving the oldies is a small indication that Trump understands the deep hole he's dug for himself with his approval raitings.

There are no new ideas here. Just old, bad ideas repackaged. Ideas that have already been shown to fail. Repackaging them politically is like rebranding leaded gasoline as "the new gas." It won't solve anything. It'll just reintroduce the same old problems they caused.

This isn't about solving real problems. It's about scaring people, dividing them, or lining the pockets of the president and his friends.

Trump's answer to high gas prices is socialism with patriotic branding

Grandpa Pudding Brains' White House has opened 25 "Freedom Fuel" gas stations around Philadelphia, selling gas below the national average, because socialism becomes freedom when you slap a flag decal on the pump.

USA TODAY reports the stations are selling gas at $3.47 a gallon, below the $3.79 national average, and that the White House promoted the launch with a video of customers thanking Trump for cheaper gas. The move comes after months of volatile fuel prices tied to crude oil shocks, the U.S.-Iran war, and shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

The White House announced the initiative on July 7 on X with a video of customers thanking President Donald Trump for lowering gas prices. The gas stations are located in the greater Philadelphia area, the White House told USA TODAY in an email on Tuesday, July 7.

In the video, one customer claimed the gas station saved him money. "I thought gas was more expensive, but it's not," the man, who was not identified, said. "Thanks, Trump, for saving me some money."

The corruption never ends with this shitshow of an administration.

 

There is little info on this. Apparently it is a private company, so not socialism, but is definitely affiliated with Trump in some shape or form and they are using official government resources to promote it.

 

Something sus there. Undercutting the market by 50 cents a gallon. I'm pretty sure profit margins in the gas station biz are not that fat. Owners are not disclosed, and Trump is trying to take credit for it. So, I'm guessing some billionaire political ally pulled this stunt to provide some political cover for the high gasoline prices in an important swing state, and will chalk up his business losses as the cost of buying an election. So, maybe more state capitalism than socialism. Either way, dirty as hell.

 

The WH is a funny bunch. Freedom Fuel. $3.47 vs $3.79. Really.

These guys are really betting that you don't see and hear with your own mind. And I don't blame them for it. It has worked very well with their base.

Keep bringing attention to gas prices.

 

It definitely is very sketchy. It is either Trump associates or somebody trying to curry favor with Trump. It is insane how secretive this is.

Trump still doesn’t grasp the concept of groceries

President Donald Trump didn’t know what “groceries” were until just a few years ago. Which makes sense, given that he’s almost certainly never set foot inside a grocery store. He even called the word “groceries” “such an old term.”

Now he’s discovered another amazing concept: discounted sale prices.

And because he’s Donald Trump, he assumes they’re about him.

“Great news! I have just been informed that one of the biggest, best, and smartest Retailers in America, Walmart, will be lowering prices, by a lot, at my Administration’s request to celebrate our great Country’s 250th birthday,” he wrote on Truth Social. “Walmart will, in particular, be dropping the price for a pound of ground beef by almost 15%, among many other products.”

Yeah, Walmart is having a sale on summer staples—and their announcement said absolutely nothing about giving Trump any credit for it.

“This is a huge deal for the many millions of Americans who, smartly, shop at Walmart, which is a truly patriotic Company who loves the U.S.A.,” he further babbled about the retailer, probably after buying stock in the company.

For the record, one study found that “In the 10 years after a Walmart Supercenter opened in a given community, the average household in that community experienced a 6 percent decline in yearly income—equivalent to about $5,000 a year in 2024 dollars—compared with households that didn’t have a Walmart open near them. Low-income, young, and less-educated workers suffered the largest losses.”

For Trump, there’s apparently nothing more patriotic than making working people poorer.
“My Administration is lowering prices that Joe Biden incompetently raised with the worst inflation crisis in history, a total disaster along with the Southern Border, the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, and many other failures,” Trump added, once again blaming former President Joe Biden while pretending his own tariffs aren’t pushing prices higher.

But he wasn’t done.

“Just as I promised, Oil Prices are plummeting FAST, and Gas Prices at the pump are dropping too, just like egg and Prescription Drug prices which I am bringing down by historic levels.”

Next he’ll take credit for two-for-one avocado deals and the manager’s special on rotisserie chickens.​
