You are correct in that the ability to fundraise is the #1 pre-requisite for a Presidential candidate. As we look forward to 2028, whoever can demonstrate fundraising capabilities will be the leader on the Democrat side. AOC would likely be the odds-on favorite based on her ability to get the small-money donors in volume -- through her coalition and through Bernie Sanders' coalition. GOOD DAY
In the distant future when there are studies about the human species there are going to be epic papers and studies written about this era of evolution. People will be fascinated and perplexed how a culture could prop up this dumb mofo.
we have already forgotten about Trump I, Covid, and Senile Biden. In 6 years, Jesus will return and win the presidency under the Reoublican brand while the Democrats will claim he is worse than the anti Christ
In my opinion since 1980 the only intelligent presidents we have had are Bush I, Clinton, & Obama. Reagan, Bush II, Trump, & Biden are 100% idiots. Democrats are tricked by someone being a good person Carter and Biden. Republicans absolutely LOVE showmanship (see evangelical mega church preachers) and being grifted see actor Reagan and celebrity failed business man Trump. The US population is too large to come up with this sum of candidates and deserves better.
Ehh, we can go round and round on it, but we don't agree. If you're not offended that the party does a whole rigamarole about collecting votes for who their candidate should be and then throws the whole thing away when they don't like the answer, fine.
They were fine with / accepted the answer... you're ignoring what happened after the vote, as if nothing has changed. Would you be fine if a guy murdered someone and the reaction should NOT be to push him out, just because voters already picked him without that information? The party here isn't a single entity. Bernie pushed the guy out, and I doubt anyone would say he's "the party"
Who is 'they'? As I said before, primary voters seem to feel very differently about being led by the nose than general election voters.
"They" refers to "the party" as I interpreted it in your post. If primary voters were polled, I would wager that a vast majority of them would want him to step down.
https://paydayreport.com/platners-d...s-campaign-over-sexual-misconduct-complaints/ PITTSBURGH, PA. - Yesterday, Payday Report learned that Congresswoman Summer Lee barred Moraff from her 2022 congressional campaign after receiving at least three complaints of sexual misconduct against Moraff. Now, Moraff, who recruited Graham Platner to run for Senate in Maine, is at the center of a massive controversy after he admitted that he spent only a few days vetting Platner, who just withdrew from the Senate race after he was accused of rape. Given the fact that both Congresswoman Lee and Justice Democrats stopped working with Moraff following these accusations, questions have been raised about why so many on the left trusted him to give a thorough vetting and assessment of Platner. …
As I said from the start, my complaint is not about how it serves the party or Democrats, but how it reinforces the reputation of the party as elitist among the general public.
Whoever it is, *please* do not publicly endorse them or say "this is the way" or anything like that. Thanks in advance!
What a load of bs. Identity politics is not the way to go. Google AI on Adolph Reed an African American on this issue. "Political scientist Adolph Reed Jr. argues that identity politics acts as a neoliberal mechanism that obscures fundamental class inequalities. He contends that race-reductionist ideologies substitute genuine material redistribution with symbolic representation, ultimately doing little to challenge the structural exploitation of working-class people. I would add that such material redistribution would be popular unite "whites" and others rather than pitting them against each other.
Just another conventional Dem, even one who all of a sudden starts saying the things Platner said in his resgnation letter will cut it. Folks want real change of the type he advocated and are wary of the typical politico who will all of a sudden change their rhetoric.
MY complaint to YOUR complaint is that it's not based on evidence in this case. 1- Bernie (known more as an outsider of the DEM party) personally pushed him to step aside. Privately, right after the rape allegation broke 2- He was abandoned by pretty much everyone else too, including people who'd defended him through earlier scandals 3- 1 & 2 happened because of a credible allegation of rape, not politics I get it that anti-elitist is a thing. I hate it. People are too easily bought into idea that some powerful party is controlling everything, when in fact, the DEM party is weak as hell. At the same time, the Republican party run by Trump is known as the non-elitist party while they are literally run by the most powerful elites among us. Ok, I stop complaining But of course, perception matters more than evidence. And you are NOT wrong, though I don't think it's a party-wide perception, just one about the progressive wing.
There was nothing private about the push to get Platner to quit. Had it only been private, he might have been able to stubbornly stick it out even without the support of his allies. But it was in all the papers that all the power brokers were demanding he quit. Op-eds were saying he should quit. The state party apparatus were making plans for what they do once they force him to quit. There was nothing at all private about any of it. So the cost on Platner was not merely running without allies and resources to test what the voters thought, which he seemed inclined to try, but that he was publicly villainized and shamed that if he dared persist the social and reputational pain would only increase. If I was a Mainer, I probably wouldn't have voted for him (and then be accused of disloyalty by reeko and stros), but I would have liked to see the electorate say rape is disqualifying (in a way they did not for Trump). Now they don't get that opportunity. And, in its impact, it's not just a progressive wing thing because it echoes so much of what happened with Clinton and then Biden and then Harris. It probably isn't a completely fair characterization, but it looks like candidates get anointed, the primary voters go along, and then the party is perplexed when the general election voters remain skeptical. It just looks more stark in the Platner case because they yanked him after he won. Finally, regarding Trump and elitism. I think here words fail us a bit because we are using elitism as a shorthand, but it manifests in various ways that are too complex for a single term. The elitism accusation against Democrats revolves around building up inauthentic candidates for the advancement of the party's interest. Trump's elitism is more about selling out the national interest and the welfare of the people to make the rich and powerful even more rich and powerful so long as they defer to one man. You could call either or both elitism, but they look nothing alike.
