i still listen to them frequently. i like all their stuff, but that first album, reading writing and arithmetic is so good. this is probably my favorite song of theirs...when the chorus hits it just kills me in the best way possible. their story is so interesting. the singer and guitarist were a couple who met in college, started a band which immediately got popular and they got signed. they didnt want that life...they put out three albums then decided they wanted to live a quiet normal life and raise a family. they wont do any interviews, dont play shows or do any kind of public updates. apparently the band still plays together and records, but they dont release anything. they just do it for themselves. after 30 years they must have albums and albums worth of material.
theres a band i got into a few years ago called pearl and the oysters that just put out their 6th album called monkey mind. from LA via paris. imagine if stereolab were a yacht rock band with a weekly residency at the regal beagle (the bar in threes company).
