The Television Academy has announced the nominations for the 78th Emmy Awards, with this year’s drama and comedy categories getting big contenders while the limited series is looking rather thin. Most of the names are repeats from past years including “The Pitt,” “The Diplomat,” “Paradise,” “Slow Horses,” “Shrinking,” “The Gilded Age,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “The Bear,” “Hacks,” “Abbott Elementary,” and “Nobody Wants This”. But a couple of new shows broke through with Apple TV in particular a big winner as “Pluribus,” “Widow’s Bay,” “Your Friends and Neighbors” and “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” all scored multiple nominations. HBO Max also did well with “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” “Rooster,” “The Comeback” and “DTF St. Louis”; while Netflix scored strongly with “The Beast in Me,” “Beef” and “Remarkably Bright Creatures”. “The Pitt” leads overall, including tech noms, with 25 nominations followed by “Hacks” with 24, “Widow’s Bay” with 19, “Pluribus” with 18, “Beef” with 16, “DTF St. Louis” with 13 and both “Saturday Night Live” and “Spider-Noir” with 11 each. Kaitlin Olson’s scene as a clown was probably the only time I laughed while watching Hacks. She’s underrated as a comedic actress. Although, she works a lot, so maybe not underrated.
